My accounting department received a deceptive solicitation, designed to resemble an invoice.  It was prominently titled "Remittence/Invoice Form" and showed a balance due of 349.40.  It also listed an INVOICE number as well as a tracking, account and user ID ( mine, supposedly).  The bottom line is, this  letter was meant to deceive, since the company I work for has never done business with American Digital Networks, nor would we.  In their own words, here is the "service" they provide

"Instead of fighting the explosive growth of the Internet, the ADN
provides the means for our member companies to organize a private
Internet. As the Internet grows, so do the number of companies fighting
for top rankings in existing search directories. The American Digital
Network is a channel for each company to manage their part of the
Network."  (From: http://www.adn1.com/About_Us/    Date:4/20/2011)

What is a "private internet"? Why would you want one if your goal is to be seen by as many people as possible on the "public internet"? I suppose this is legal because they aren't actually being deceptive.  Your company probably will be listed on a directory somewhere and no body but your private network will see it.

Useless service + deceptive solicitation=scam.

AUTHOR: A.D.N. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 20, 2011

A.D.N. will contact this submitter to discuss the legal issues involved in making unsubstantiated claims as to the intent of A.D.N.

A.D.N. sent a marketing packet which stated clearly, in very large print on the front of the envelope, INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE.  A.D.N. also included a buckslip with the benefits of participation and a letter explaining the service in detail.  On the form itself, we included clear statements on the front and back of the form that the form should be used to participate in our program and participation is not required.  The form is meant to facilitate participation and is our alternative to marketing programs by other companies such as aggressive phone solicitations or sending auto-signup checks where, when cashed, will enroll the user.

Our service is an enhanced online directory and all of our content can be found through major search engines or by searching our network directly.  By being a part of our service, a user will increase the likelihood they will show up in search engine results.  If the submitter of the complaint actually read the form prior to submitting their complaint, they would have learned about the benefits of participation.

The term "private" Internet is used to describe what you essentially get when you participate in an online network.  The complainants claims that our service is "useless" simply shows, again, that they do not understand the service and did not take the time to read the material sent.  Facebook and other online networks are, in a way, private networks or Internet Networks.

The user did not participate in our service and if they contact us directly with a request to be removed from our invitation list, we will do so and hope any other customers or potential customers who receive our marketing -- in any form -- and have questions, will contact us via the clear contact information on our website.

It's clear this user needs to make revisions or retract their posting, if possible, because it is clear they did not contact us nor understand the service prior to making their post.

Nothing in this posting should be considered a settlement of this issue and A.D.N. reserves the right to legal or other appropriate action against this organization.
