On February 25, 2005 I shopped in their store on South Wadsworth and found some furniture I liked but I preferred one of the alternative fabrics; so I agreed to special order a loveseat and two chairs. I was told it would take six to eight weeks for delivery. In a consumer's mind that would imply six weeks with a two week cushion, eight weeks at most.

After six weeks I called customer service to check on my order and was greeted with the now familiar term of approximately six to eight weeks. After eight weeks I was told that my furniture shipped on April 15. Later I was told May 9. On May 20th I was told the order shipped on May 17. I was told at some point that the factory had to backorder the fabric; it would have been very nice if someone had called to tell me that. How about checking with the factory before allowing someone to place an order to make sure they have the customer's chosen fabric available?

I have only received one call from anyone at your company that was not initiated by me. The salesperson called me after the eight-week point to say my order would be a little late, which I already knew because I had called customer service.

It has been 13 weeks and frankly I barely remember what the furniture I ordered looks like. I cannot believe that a company the size of American Furniture, with their own trucks, etc. cannot deliver a special order on time. I find it unfathomable that AFW and their vendors have such a hard time establishing and meeting a reliable schedule.

AFW's people act like they have done the customer a favor by placing a special order, when in reality, I did them a favor by buying furniture from them even though they didn't have the color I wanted, and letting themuse my money for the past three months free of interest.

Today I was told that the order is on backorder with an unknown ship date. How can it be shipped on April 15th, May 9th and May 17th and be on backorder now? They obviously no communication system with your vendors?

Rest assured that I will NEVER step into an American Furniture Warehouse store again. I will also tell everyone I know about the shoddy service your company provides after accepting payment in full.
