ARA Asset Recovery Associates Created a fictional wireless account, and attempted to extort almost a thousand dollars from me. Schaumburg Illinois

I received a letter in the mail from this collection agency complete with an original creditor, old account number and a balance of almost a thousand dollars. They threatened negative action against my credit score and possibly court. I called them to get more information because to my knowledge i had no idea about this debt. They gave me a wireless number I had never heard.

I was very confused by this and told them I would call them back once I figured it out. The man on the phone told me that I had better hurry because they were offering a settlement of $344, but only until the next day. I then called ATT because thats who they claimed the debt came from. I have been an ATT customer for years but had never heard of this particular wireless number. Well apparently neither had they.

They had no record of that wireless number ever being used at all, nor had they ever heard of the bogus account number this credit service gave me.
They researched it in their archives, but the result was the same. This number never existed. I almost paid them the settlement amount just to make sure my credit was not impacted negatively. I'm glad I did a little research first!
