My mothers electric was roughly $259.00. She had set a payment arrangment just to extend the cutoff date by 2 hours so that she had time to get in and pay it. Well low and behold at 8:00 in the morning they shut off her electric.

When she called them they said they were unable to make payment arrangements because her account had been red flagged. She had them retrieve the audio tape of the phone call that extended the cutoff time and it did infact show that a payment arrangement had been made. But then they said that because I am her daughter and that I had a previous bill in my name that no arrangement should have been made and that they were right in turning off the electricity.

They then said that she had to pay a total of $1206.00(her bill, my bill, and an additional deposit)And said that they would not turn the electric back on for another week. Now being a paralegal she knows that you can not charge a customer their families bills and an additional deposit just like you can not put someone into debtors prison. They said that if I so much as walked into her house or if my children did I was benefiting from the APS electric services thus making her responsible for my bill.

We offered evidence of my current lease showing that I do not live with her and told them that they can not charge her for my bill even if I did. They said that my lease ment nothing and that it could just be that I lease a house under my name and live with her to avoid paying my bill.

Now I'm pretty sure that renting my own place costs alot more that paying off the bill with APS so that makes absolutely no sense. They are using tactics to make other people pay for others bills that they are not obligated to do so. So with the electric turned off and 117 degree weather she had no choice but to vacate the house and had that put on her credit.

So help me God I will never ever ever do business with APS again and I hope you wont either!

Arizona Public Service Abusers!

AUTHOR: Fed Up With Aps - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Arizona Public Service needs deregulation! Please, I urge you to write your congressmen and the Corporation Commission. APS is a corporation of abusive, neglectful, indignant, disrespectful corporate bullies. Alll CEO's of APS should be fired and put in jail for their abuse of the public. Fee gouging, rip offs! APS is asking their employees to abuse the public, putting thier own employees in harms way. Shut off APS!

I too feel that APS is a horrible company that overcharges and completely lacks customer service. They inconsiderate of people situations. I too Love SRP but unfortunately the apartment complex I live in now only works with APS. I am paying a bill of 250 dollars on a 985 sq ft apartment. I have talked to 1300 sq ft home owners who pay less than that with SRP!! How can I be paying more??? Incredible!!

117 Degrees

AUTHOR: Desiree - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 21, 2006

I recently found this site when looking up information about another company which is also posted. She was intending to sue but she didnt feel that she could take a large company like APS without some serious attorneys, even though she did nothing wrong and they screwed up royally. I just want other people to be aware of the dangers and risks when setting up service with APS. Not that many people have a choice because APS is the major provider in Arizona, or the Phoenix Metropolitan area

This incident with APS happened in August of 2005, when the whether was well into the 100's.

And like I mentioned before, I was able to provide proof of another residance for myself, but they insisted that she be responsible for my bill. They were wrong. Period.

117degrees?

AUTHOR: Armando - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 21, 2006

- I don't work for APS. Don't care for them. I've long lived in SRP territory. I found your APS report because I read this site frequently. New posts are at the top. Therefore, yours was right up there when you first posted.

- I agree that APS cannot legally collect from your mother for YOUR outstanding bill. You mentioned casually in your original post that you had an outstanding bill, but since you did not originally mention you did not think it was a valid bill or that you were disputing it, one would assume the outstanding bill was valid.

- Where in Arizona was it 117 degrees in February? Or did she move out over the summer and you are now just getting around to posting about it?

Apparently you seem to work for APS. I dont know anyone who would randmly look up Ripoff Report and then choose the APS report unless you were looking to do business with them and then you wouldnt have any comments, because you wouldnt have any experience with them..but anyway.

On a different note..
I recently became disabled. I incurred thousands of dollars of debt. And while that is not the fault of APS, neither is it the fault of my mother. I dont expect her to pay and neither should APS. And by law they were at fault. In the United States APS(or any other company) can not charge/bill or turn off service in the event that a family member or friend fails to pay their debts. Unless they are a cosigner. Which she wasnt. Try looking up the A.R.S. which you should know is the Arizona Revised Statutes.

Anyhow, I put it in my bankruptcy and both her and I are sticking with SRP. Better service, better customer care, better employees, and awsome prices. You know, my average bill with APS was around $250 in the winter time. And that was after changing all light bulbs to low watt and removing half of them. I had natural gas so I shouldnt have paid much for heating. With SPR average bill runs $100- $130 tops and that is with electric heating. Cant beat that.

And I never missed a payment with APS. All those extra charges were service delivery charges, taxes, ridiculous fees, turnoff charges and additional deposit "required" even after turnoff. They never even applied my previous deposit of $200.00.

So hey, if you feel the need to be ripped-off go with APS. They'll do it everytime. Everyone I know has moved to SRP.

I don't think they want your business anyway...

AUTHOR: Armando - (U.S.A.)

You threaten that you won't do business with APS anymore, yet you apparently don't pay your bills with them anyway.

Why don't you pay your outstanding bill so they won't go after your poor mom for it. :)
