AssetCare; NCO Have been calling several times daily for my disabled my husband who has no credit history trying to collect a debt that is not my husband's. Norcross Georgia

My husband, who is disabled and does not have access to credit, is being harassed since 1998. Numerous collection agencies have contacted us regarding a supposed VISA account solely in my husband's name. The most recent agency is AssetCare, Inc. They call several times daily.

We have caller ID and an answering machine and do not talk to anyone. A recording comes on saying they are trying to collect a debt. We have actually had our entire answering tape filled up from messages from this company and no one else could leave a message!

Several years ago I spoke to a live person and asked them to send us an itemized bill and proof that this was my husband's bill ( of course, it was not). We never received anything except another threatening letter from another agency. I later wrote a letter asking them to stop the letters and calls and they did stop for almost one year.

A few months ago, the calls started up again and we received one letter in the summer, but no return address. The phone number just goes to to an answering service and want us to leave our phone number ( I did not). We should not have to listen for messages before answering our phone. Our friends and family are pretty tired of this, I'm sure. Can we file charges and how would we go about this? CDHB
