Atmos Energy Double Billing? Grand Prairie Texas

Moved from address in Grand Prairie.

Was billed for utilities that did not get shut off. Moved into new home in August 2013. I called all utilities to cancel services, including Atmos Energy. In either May or June of 2014 I received notice that I owed 599.00 to Atmos Energy. I paid my bills online so there were no hard copy notices.

When I made contact with Atmos, they were completely unreasonable, stating that they would have had a recording if I had cancelled and they did not have a recording. I offered to pay three months in an attempt to resolve and they would not budge.

I had a copy of the rental contract where the lease stopped. What I do not understand is why Atmos continued to supply gas to a residence where the bill was not paid.

There were other people that moved into the home immediately after; so is Atmos double billing that property????

Now it is at a billing collection and I am paying the bill to get it off my credit report.
