I complained to Atmos Energy about not receiving regular billing in the spring of 2014. Despite the fact that my account showed a credit of over $100 online, I saw no bill for that month.  I was told that it would be looked into and to be patient. Another month passed and still a credit on my account electronically, but no billing shown for that month. And I was again told to be patient. Finally in early December 2014 I received 16 bills all dated on Thanksgiving, three showing credit on my account in the spring and the others showing amounts due on 11/25 ranging from 50-500 dollars. Two attempts to address this issue were met with little comprehension and no help.  I was even told that they hadn’t even read the meter those months, so I am not sure how they are figuring out the charges there. Finally a man from Atmos showed up in the middle of a very cold January evening to shut off the heat. He called his office, and I was able to talk to an “accountant” about the issue, who then told me that I owed on bills since July of 2013. I have paid all bills I have ever received from them, and had proof that I had indeed paid all bills in full in 2013. To my astonishment, she then told me that even though I had paid the bills I had received in 2013 in full, they had decided I had not paid enough. This is the first I had been told of that.  I am still unsure as to what this means or why this company can come back two years later and tell me I have to pay more on bills that were paid in full as billed at the time. I do not understand any of the billing practices they are using or odd explanations I am being given. I do not understand why they can show up to turn off the heat in the dead of winter while I am trying to deal with this issue without giving me so much as a single written notice. The woman told me that I have one week to work out a payment plan to send them $500 that I certainly do not owe them. I am at my wit’s end with these people who answer no questions but read scripts over the phone and cannot or will not solve the problems that their ineptitude has caused. If there was another gas company in the Dallas, I would certainly switch, but as far as I know they have a complete monopoly on the area.
