I am a disabled individual living on a fixed income on an Indian reservation, two hours way from an auto parts store. When the hydraulic clutch master cylinder failed, I ordered a Duralast replacement from Autozone. Drove my Jeep shifting without the clutch and turning the engine off at stop signs till the part arrived.
I had it installed, and the clutch worked great...for two weeks. The new master cylinder slowly failed, exactly as the OEM cylinder which had lasted 21 years. I emailed Autozone, and they replied asking me to ship the part back (at my expense) for replacement...which means no way of getting to the store or doctor for at least a week, plus money out of my pocket.
I checked the online Jeep forums and found many postings from Jeep owners who had exactly the same experience at Autozone with the exact same part. Some needed to replace the Autozona part 2 or 3 times. These posts covered a period of time ranging over the past few years.
Autozone is knowingly selling defective parts, costing consumers twice the labor and shipping costs, plus the loss of transportation for a period of time.

After being shuffled between four websites and phone numbers, I finally got to speak with a CSR named "John". After I explained the difficulty of being without a vehicle for a week two hours away from any stores, and the fact that I had posted on multiple consumer sites, (including Ripoffreport), John offerded not only to overnight a replacement part without the need for me to pay to have the defective past removed and shipped back. He also promised to check with his manager and the warehouse to ascertain if there is a higher-than-normal return rate on this part. I don't know where they found John, but he should be training ALL their CSR's!

Im going to be nice to a fellow redman. Brother, if you did not put on a OEM part then you MUST expect this. I would be MORE concerned with the fact that the SAME issue is occuring with a NEW part that happend with the old part. I know being disabled is tough, but try and use OEM parts where you can. They may be more expensive but youre 100% sure its going to fit and its the DIRECT part called for by the manufacturer. Also you cant look online as proof of a problem, people WILL lie and exagerrate their circumstances. Oftimes their complaint is of their own doing and THEY are looking for someone else to blame. You know, The American Way.
Autozone is NOT selling DEFECTIVE parts. THEY give you a few options as to what they can get for you. If you CHOSE a cheaper part, then thats on YOU for that choice. Sometimes its just not the correct dimensions.
