At the beginning they made it sound really good, so i listened and i joined the UOP. They put me on some mystery classes, after a few days i decided that was a waste of money. so i called the financial counselor his is Chris and asked him how much does those two classes costs. i didn't remember very clear but it was very expensive, and he said i have to take 4 or 6 of those mystery classes that taugh me nothing. I decided to stop,
so i called Travis walls the counselor of Axia College. He told me i attended a week of class so i would have to pay 344.50 dollars for the cost of two classes. He said i didn't need to fill out anything; just stop logging into my account and paid the amount. I stopped going to my student website on that day and i was suppose to pay 344.50 dollars for that week of classes i attended. Mr. Walls also noticed me that i should be getting check from my loaner, but he told me not to deposit or cash them or else i will owe money to the loaner. After a month or so i receive a check from UOP it was around 1300 from my financial aid. I remember what Mr. walls said and i didn't deposit or cash the check. I shredded the check.
Two weeks ago, i receive a mail from Mr. Christopher Arellano financial counselor. he claimed that i own the school 1,666.50. so i Call Mr. Arellano and talked to him about the situation, i asked him how come the amount is different than what they told me. He told me that is because i have the pell grant check and i need to returned that check to the school and the balance would be 344.50. I wasn't even thinking and i told him let me find the check and i will mail it back to him.
I was looking everywhere and couldn't find my check so i called Chris back about the situation. He told me that because i receive, so im responsible for the amount of the check. i told him i didn't spent it so im not paying it. he told me if i don't pay the amount in full he will put it on collection. I insist on paying the full amount, he told me to pay 344.50 first then he could work something for me for the remaining balance. I paid the 344.50, and i called him back. he is not answering my call.
Please if anyone have any info on a similar problem let me know. im upset, this is a scam. how can a company write out a check and not know if that check is cashed or deposit? that's the question i asked, he didn't answer. It does not matter what they will do to me, i am not paying for the money that i didn't spent.

Axia College IS the 2 years of college

Larry,
When you started classes at UoP 25+ years ago, they did not have Axia College. Axia College was opened recently and offers a student the opportunity to complete the first 2 academic years of study with the hope that the student will continue with the Bachelor's degree with UoP. I am not, in any way, defending the poor writing skills exibited by the author. I think it is important though, to realize that he may be somewhat upset while writing of his experience with the institution. To criticize his writing is petty and I would think that someone who graduated from the esteemed institution would realize that prior to posting.
(By the way, I am a current student at Axia/UoP.)

When I began classes at the University of Phoenix some 25 years ago, students were required to have graduated from high school and to have taken courses equivalent to 2 years of college.
I tried reading Alan's complaint and stopped after the first couple of sentences. Alan, you have no business in college. Your literacy level is about equal to that of a slow-learner in the fourth grade. UOP has really gone downhill if you meet their current enrollment standards.

Sorry

Sorry you had such a terrible time. I'm an Axia student, a single mom, and a full time worker. I have also done poorly with Axia College. However, it was my fault. I didn't meet attendance enough, so I got kicked out of class. I stopped handing in assignments, got carried away, and eventually stopped posting. My fault again. But, my financial aid counselor told me I could take the class over for no EXTRA charge (so I ended up paying for the class just once) and the first time around won't cost anything. There is a limit (due to credits you must have per semester for financial aid) and I'm on my 3rd time taking this Ethics class, no EXTRA charge.
I have worked in customer service for a million years. Sometimes it is miscommunication, sometimes it's feelings in the way, and sometimes BOTH parties are wrong. Be proactive! You have the right to request a copy of everything you have signed, and all the work you've done (request to speak to someone higher up if this is denied) and see a lawyer if they did anything to violate that. Also, request a change of couselors (Scott M. is a great financial guy and Sylvia S. is a great counselor). Either way, with EVERYTHING in the world, it's buyer beware. Read every line and ask ask ask questions. I hope you are more careful as a consumer next time.
P.S. Specifically, EVERY time they pick is inconvenient to have maintenance scheduled. Even if you do it when there is nothing due (unlike at midnight), someone will complain that those 4 hours are the ONLY ones they have to do the work and there is no way around it. Be can't serve everyone all the time. there must also be consistency and unity in classes online. Life is tough and we have to work around things sometimes. Sorry if it is harsh, but it IS true. Good luck...

You should call Apollo Group (the issuing company of the check you received and the parent company of University of Phoenix and Axia College) and let them know you received the check, then shredded it. Find out what they can do for you. They did issue you the check, so until that is cleared up, you will owe them. This is not a scam, it's just a way for a business to cover itself.
Imagine if you said you lost it and they forgave you the $1300, then a month later you went and cashed it? The company would take the hit.
You've done nothing wrong here, Alan. You just need to contact Apollo Group or Axia College of University of Phoenix, and explain the situation.
FYI, the mystery classes are subjects designed to bring you up to speed and make you a college level reader and writer. They are actually pretty interesting classes like english, history, critical thinking, writing, math, science, pyschology, and more.
Every college or university in the nation makes you take these. They are called general education courses, and constitute your freshman and sophomore level classes.
