Bank of America is holding all checks for 3 days. Meaning, they are holding my money and charging my account for overdraft fees! I have lost over $400.00 on fee because of their unethetical procedures!

but NO, I don't work and have never worked for BOA. I was just trying to explain why the bank decided to put a 3 day hold on the checks you deposited. From your reaction, I guess I hit pretty close to the mark.
As far as "they were government checks", so what? Government checks have been forged in the past, so ant government checks you deposit are reviewed like any other check. If you get government checks regularly (monthly) the bank may not hold them after a few months. But if it's the first couple of times or a large amount, they are subject to holds also. That'swhy it's better to get direct deosit if the income is regular. It's there faster and NEVER held.

Rebecca, Some Questions...

First, you addressed the previous responder as he/she was an employee of the bank. Do you know that to be true? But my more important questions are these: On the day of the overdrafts, what did your check register say and what was the running balance? What is the current running balance right now according to your check register? According to your check register, what did your running balance indicate, taking into effect the bank's funds availability policy on the days of the overdrafts? Let me answer those questions for you. "I don't know!" Your case just like ALL OTHER CASES OF OVERDRAFTS is for ONE reason and ONE REASON ALONE...failure of the account holder (YOU), to maintain written records and an on-going running balance in addition to adding the deposits into that current running balance ONLY after they have officially posted. There is no trick accounting, no grand conspiracy, nobody figuring out ways to take poor Rebecca's money. Its ALL YOU and YOUR failure to properly manage YOUR OWN account containing YOUR OWN MONEY. Then additionally, YOUR use of the account WITHOUT you having ANY IDEA what the balance is. Don't waste your efforts claiming I must work for the bank, because I don't. Instead, use your efforts to learn how to keep records, how to balance your account. Then AND ONLY then will you live without NSF fees.

Holding cnecks...

When a bank holds a deposit it's for one or more valid reasons. Holding to cause fees is not one of them. The reasons include: in-state or out-of-state check; amount of check; whether check is personal or business and number of overdrafts in last 6 months. From your post, you're writing checks and then making deposits to cover them, this will not work. Deposit the checks and after they are available in your account you can spend the money without any fees.
