On Sunday, May 17th 2009, I walked into the Barkworks pet store in the Westside Pavilion with my girlfriend and mother. We found a beautiful 2-month old Dachshund puppy. We immediately fell in love. They were a little more than willing to lower the price for the dog, which made no sense to me, seeing as how I went in no more than a month earlier and found another Dachshund for almost $300 more.

We decided to buy the puppy and everything went through very well. We got the dog home and noticed she had a cough. We didn't think too much of it, standard kennel cough. We took her to the vet and he gave us medication for the dog. The next day she got more sick, this progressed over the next couple of days. She then showed all the signs of the Parvo Virus. During the beginning stages we had no clue what could be wrong, and watched her for another day. She got worse, much worse. She began to poop blood, vomit, and couldn't eat or drink. We stayed up for almost a full 24 hours trying to tend to her before we took her to the vet.

Today, Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 8:00 AM, we took her to the Century Veterinary Clinic in Los Angeles, CA. They took her in immediately for a parvo test, and it came up positive. As soon as the test came up positive, they began to treat her. At around 9:10AM, the puppy passed away. The parvo killed her.

We went to discuss this at Barkworks, and upon looking at their other dogs, they seemed to all be very lethargic, and very uninterested in anything. They decided to refund our money after telling them what happened. There was no problem with them paying for our vet bills, or refunding our money.
I believe fully that Barkworks buys from puppy mills, and needs to have their business investigated fully.
