I called my bank which is BBandT and made sure I understood what Available and Current means. They told me that the available showed a deposit being made. It was my paycheck coming through. That was Friday. Saturday morning I checked online again and this time it showed a overdraft fee that was taken out after my paycheck had been deposited. The overdraft fee was from something that was being taken out the same time my check was being deposited. Instead of taking under consideration my paycheck was coming in they went ahead and gave me an overdraft fee even though I really had money coming in to cover everything. I called the bank and I was informed that if I used my debit card on the 8th and if I deposit on the 9th they will go by my amount in my account on the 8th even though the 8th bill was not sent to the bank till after the deposit. See what I mean!! If I paid a bill with my debit on the 8th and it did not go through my bank till the 9th they will go by my account information as of the 8th not when the bill came through the bank. They will not consider the deposit that was credited to the bank on the 9th when they deal with the bill. So I got an overdraft fee even though the deposit was coming in and they knew it was coming in to. I am so mad. It's stealing and they know it and don't care. How can they do that and not consider the deposit coming in at the same time? And still give a overdraft fee. I plan on changing banks. I know it will mess my direct deposit up. Yes, I do have direct deposit and it does not help either. NO it's not my bad money handling. It's BBAndT. I plan on changing banks as soon as possible.

It's not the bank. It is your bad money management skills. If your direct deposit is for the 9th and you spend money on the 8th, then you HAVE spent money you don't have in your account. The hold (commitment to pay) is created when you give your card to the merchant and they run it through the machine. The item may not post until a day or two later, but effectively you have promised that money out of your account.

If you have $100 in your account on the 8th and purchase $60 in groceries, you now have an available balance of $40 ($100 - $60). If a check, automatic draft, or any type of debit transaction of more than $40 that posts to your account on the 8th, you have spent more money than is in your account and you will receive a fee. Even though your direct deposit is available immediately after posting for the 8th is done, it can not be used to cover items posting the 8th.

Please use a register for all transactions and it will tell you if you have enough money available for that purchase you want to make. if you don't and you still make the buy, the bank will access the fees. You accepted this when you opened your account with them.

And yes, I do work for a bank, but not this one. I understand the bank is in business to make money, but I'm just trying to help people understand how they can avoid the fees.

In all the history of banking, If you only have $1.00 in your account and spend $2.00 that is your fault.

A bank, any bank, has no idea if you will get another paycheck as you are overdrawing your account. EVERY bank goes on date and time. I learned that back in the 70's.

"I used my debit card on the EIGHT". "IF I deposit on the NINTH...". You said it yourself, you spent money you didn't have and/or were hoping "the float" would protect you. Spending money you don't have IS stealing and IT IS bad money handling. You can try and skin it or word it, anyway which way, you used your debit card BEFORE there were funds in your account.
