this company has been advertising on prime tv channels, that they offer background checks. the only thing that is 100% accurate is their DISCLAIMER. first off, you can get all this public info yourself for free, but most importantly the info is NOT ACCURATE. their disclaimer tells you this to avoid lawsuits, but their ads make their service sound accurate and thatthe info they can provide extensive. it is neither.
i just canceled my seven day trial. lets hope they dont continue to take my money. their email confirmation says they wont, but being as deceptive as they are,im gonna have to keep a close eye on my account. i should have known better. shame on me.

BeenVerified's Rebuttal

AUTHOR: Danny - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, February 22, 2010
Public Records for Free

A BeenVerified background check contains information collected from thousand of public records and publicly available data.  As "Terry" points out, all of this information is already out there and available to anyone.  However, BeenVerified serves its customers by organizing and integrating the information in one place and by presenting public records in a way that maximizes the usefulness of the information.  It is for this utility that the company charges its users.

Furthermore, while public record information is accessible to anyone, obtaining this information for free is debatable.  One example (which is not at all a-typical, but more of the norm), is from the state of Florida.   The state government of Florida charges $24 for a single search and charges users regardless even if the database returns nothing.  While the information can be obtained "for free" by physically visiting the country clerk, the cost of both transportation and time may exceed the cost of BeenVerified's service.

There will be a charge of $24 against your credit card for each name search of the Florida criminal history database, regardless of search results. A search may return as many as five possible matches or candidates. If you request the record of more than one candidate, an additional charge of $24 PER RECORD will be billed to your credit card.(https://www2.fdle.state.fl.us/cchinet/help.aspx#cost)

Free Trial/Cancellation Policies

BeenVerified advertises free trials and does require a valid credit or debit card for access to the trial.  BeenVerified is committed to making the cancellation procedure as easy as possible for its users.  Currently, we offer two ways for customers to cancel their account.

First, BeenVerified provides instant cancellation online.  The company created a program called "EZ Cancel," which allows for maximum transpracency and ease in the cancellation process.  "EZ Cancel" is a large blue button that, when clicked, instantly cancels an account.  This button is found within 2 clicks of every, as it sits in the "My Account" link that is accessible on every page of the applicaiton.  There are three additional points about the "EZ Cancel" process that consumers should be aware of:

  • During the sign up process, BeenVerified educates potential users on the "EZ Cancel" process
  • The "welcome email" that every user recives immediatley on sign up gives clear instructions on the "EZ Cancel" process
  • The first question in the FAQ reinforces how a user can use the "EZ Cancel" process to cancell their account.

Second, we allow customers to cancel over the phone by calling our 800 customer support number.  Currently, our hours of operation are from 8 am to 8 pm EST Monday-Friday and from 10 am 6 pm EST on Saturday.  While in an ideal world they would offer 24 hour customer support, BeenVerified does all phone support "in-house," in their main offices.  The company believes that they can provide customers with better support then if they "outsourced" their phone operations, even if outsourcing would allow for 24 hour availability.  Finally, as a business, BeenVerified wants to ensure a reaonsable quality of life for its support staff by closing on Sundays and by not assigning overnight hours.  From an overall business perspective, it would be "more profitable" to outsource 24/7 phone support, but the company believes the current system allows for more responsible and effective support, while treating their employees with maximum respect.

A few more important things to understand about the BeenVerified service:

  • Cancellations are immeidately processed without delay.  If the customer cancels within the 7 day trial period, they are NEVER billed
  • The 7-Day free trial allows the customer full access to the service, without creating a firewall to any "premium" services
  • BeenVerified does not upsell customers into any third party programs
  • There are no hidden fees or additional charges -- Every subscription grants access to unlimited background checks of all availalbe data points.
