Bella nova model management ordered Avon products asking for strange payment arrangements, no contact phone # Internet, Internet

While it is not really "Phishing" it is a scam, they really could care less about your personal information.  As the only thing they are really asking for is your name and address.  If they wanted that they could just search the Internet without even getting you involved.

The scam comes in when they send you this money order or certified check.  The check will be for about two to three thousand dollars, because of some "mistake" on their end that was made.  But in order to expedite the order they are gracious enough to let you cash it and just send them the money back.  That is where the scam comes in.  You go to your bank, deposit it, after a day or so the money becomes available.  So you send them back a MoneyGram(per their instructions).  Then a few days later you find out,surprise..surprise.., that the money order they sent you was counterfeit.  You now owe bank the money back.  Oh and the people you sent the money to, they are long gone and since you sent it by MoneyGram it is untraceable.

As for why people respond and actually fall for them, one simple word greed.  And that is what the scammers rely on.  Unfortunatly, it will probably never go away as all it takes is a couple(of the probably 10,000 e-mails they send out) to make it worth while for them.

This is one of many phishing attempts. I receive several emails a week, not for Avon products, but for most any other type of thing like employment or even 'won the lottery' type scams. All of them involve two basic elements: 1) the 'story' and 2) request for your personal id info. The only consistency I see is the id request of name, mailing address including city and zip and phone number.

Naturally all are scams. Don't reply, just delete. I can't imagine anyone responding to these type of emails, but it must work on somebody or the scam would not be around for so many years. If no one responded, then the emails would eventually stop.

I recieved the EXACT same email from a different person with this supposed company.  I think the names of a couple products were a little different but the paragraph about payment and things were word for word.
