Hello to everyone that reads this report.

This past Sunday I went into a BestBuy Store in Mooresville, NC to purchase
headphones called "The Beat" made by Monster an advertised
plus endorsed by Dr. Dre. The headphones costs $320.00 with NC
state tax. When being showed the headphones by the sales representative I asked him could he open the box so I could at least hear them on My Apple Ipod and he said they couldn't do that but we have a set on display that you can listen to and behind the stand they are hooked up to an apple ipod very similar to what I have, plus he stated if you didn't like them, just bring them back within 30-days and we will give you your money back no questions asked, so I took his word for it and purchased the headphones. I hooked them up taken very little out of the box, even used my own batteries so I wouldn't mess with most of the packaging just in case I didn't like the headphones, well, long story short, I didn't like the sound of the headphones. They sound okay, but they are geared up more for HD sound with great seperation, however, your music you download onto your device must have HD quaility sound if not, you will not enjoy the headphones.
90% of my music is recorded differently so these headphones didn't work for me. I will stay with using my Sony noise canceling headphones. So I took the headphones back the next day for a cash refund because that's how I paid for them. I was told since I spent over $250.00 dollars cash for this purchase I will be mailed a Check in the mail for my refund..Aint this some Sh_t? I didn't go in that store to purchase these headphones with an I.O.U did I. They told me that it would take anywhere from 7-15 days or longer before I see my refund by check in the mail.

Well you can fiqure, that's the last time I shop at any BestBuy store every again. They lost a great customer here and others I have been talking to all day about this one. Whatever happened to Circuit City, we could use them right about now. Bottom Line, watch out of this refund thing with Bestbuy if you are still going to shop there. Keep in mine, I'm not sure what else this store is not telling us, meaning writing it in bold letters where the customers can see there policies and have to find out the hard way. Take care.. Thought you should know. PS. If they do this to thousands of customers on a daily basis, think about all the interest money they are making off of our money per day by holding your refunds... Go fiqure.... At least you know you are not getting your money back to put into your bank to get the interest...

Wow.

It sounds like you've got some Best Buy employees trying to justify this stupid method of refunding. What happened to refunding the payment method? The consumer in this case entrusted Best Buy with a cash payment, showing confidence in the company. The company (Best Buy) in return should show the same confidence in their customers. By doing what they did, returning a check in the mail... would also discourage me from buying products again with Best Buy. Especially since I hate to wait 7-15 business days for my money to arrive on a return. It's a huge inconvenience to the customer and should not be dealt with this way.

I work for a company that traces "lost" checks and that process can sometimes take up to about 2-3 weeks, after the time frame given by the company associated with this check. With my experience, checks are lost in the mail regularly and most often than not, we have to kick in and run a trace to make sure the funds weren't cashed. Can you see from his perspective how waiting 7-15 business days is just terrible? Imagine the check being lost... He'd have to wait about 4-5 weeks to get his issue resolved. Bottom line is that Best Buy should entrust their customers and not hesitate to refund cash.

On top of that Best Buy has their headphones... imagine if business was done the way they're handling their refunds? What if customers had the right to take the product then promise to send a check in the mail for payment to Best Buy? I don't think that would fly with Best Buy on EVERY customer. (granted there are credit applications).

Bottom line, Best Buy isn't treating this customer very fairly.

Security..

Just about every store you go to will issue a check for larger refunds when you paid by cash.  It is a security measure, so that they don't have to have a lot of cash on hand to cover all of the "possible" refunds.  Because the more cash on hand they have, the higher the risk of them being robbed.

Had you paid by Credit or Debit Card they would have refunded it back onto the same card immediatly.

Ripped off?

Not sure how you got ripped off here. They have multiple postings of their return policy in the stores. They give you one on your reciept.

They do this to protect themselves against fraud. Suppose you are swapping out those headphones for a broken pair or trying to pull some other scam? This give them the protection to make sure everything is all right.

Additionally, a lot of businesses will not make such a large cash refund. The last business I ran would refund such a large amount with money orders. WOuld you have like that? its even worse to try and cash those.

This is not a rip off, unless you don't get your check.

How were you ripped off?

You returned a pair of headphones and Best Buy is refunding your money.

I took a look at Best Buy's return policy and it flat out says that any purchase over $250 will be sent as a check. I'll provide the link but in case it gets redacted, just go to Google and search for "best buy return policy".

Refund method
Your refund will generally be in the same form as the original purchase. However when the item was purchased with cash, debit or a check in an amount greater than $250, the refund will be in the form of a mail check mailed within 10 business days of the return.
