I owned a two year old Toyota Tundra with a six cylinder motor and was not real happy with its performance. I was planning to buy a 26 foot fishing boat and needed something with more power so I went to Bev Smith to look for a 4X4 with a V8 engine. When I drove onto the lot I saw the truck I wanted, if it was a 4X4.

I parked and was immediately approached by a salesman. I told him that I was looking for a four wheel drive Tundra. Well, we were standing close to the one I had spotted and I noticed that it was a one year old lease return and the window "Certified Toyota" sticker showed it to be four wheel drive. I said that I was interested in it.

The salesman got the keys and we went for a test drive. I saw that there was no four wheel drive lever and asked about that and he said that there was a button on the dash to engage the "4 wheel on demand" system. I was impressed that I would not have to have the extra shifter and the truck drove out nicely.

We went inside, worked out the financing and I drove it home. Well, I'm a truck driver and had to depart on a run the next day and was gone for three weeks. I came home for three days and went back out on the road for four weeks. My fishing buddy and neighbor came over when he saw me outside washing my new truck. He said, "I thought you were going to buy a 4X4." I told him about what the salesman had said. He asked where the 4X4 emblem for the rear quarter panel was.

I said that maybe the original owner didn't want it. He said, "Hmmmm. Are you sure it's a 4X4?" I got down on my back and looked underneath and found it is not a 4X4. Boy did I feel bad, small, torqued, ripped off. I told my pal that I'd be back and I drove to Bev Smith Toyota of Fort Pierce, Florida. When I arrived I asked for my salesman and he was off for the day. I asked for the sales manager and was taken to him.

I explained what my trouble was and he looked at something on the computer and he asked why I thought it was a 4X4. I showed him the window sticker. He looked at it and mulled something around in his head and then told me that Bev Smith doesn't print those. "They are printed by a vendor." I said that I didn't care who the printer was but the fact is that they put it in the truck as a fact that this is what the truck is.

He looked at the computer again and then said, "You didn't pay 4X4 price." I said that I came here and asked for a 4X4 and this was advertised as one and I bought it thinking it was one. He shrugged his shoulders and told me again the Bev Smith doesn't print the stickers and that I did not pay 4X4 price and then just looked around for something else to do.

Well, I asked if that was all he had to say and he just twitched his head as if saying "Yeah, I guess." I said that I wasn't done and walked out talking, in a very audible tone, about how these people are rip offs and liars. I went to my church to pray about it and my pastor was there and I told him the whole story and asked what should I do.

He said that I should not sue and just let it go and Bev Smith would get a pay back somehow, some day. This has stewed in my gut for two years now and when I found this site I felt compelled to write the report. They just didn't care! That's what irks me.

Funny Story II

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

That's the point. The dealer didn't want to replace the transfer case. His usually solution was to put "thicker" oil in to "quiet" the problem until the warranty ran out. If it hadn't been my neighbor, that would have been their solution. It was covered by warranty. But I wonder how many folks ended up bringing their trucks back, after the warranty period had expired and had to pay for new cases.

It is usually hard to tear up a transfer case, Cory!

Maybe the factory was having a bad run?

Besides, on a new truck wouldn't the manufacturer pay for the repair? That dealer sounds nutsy to me.

Besides, I thought the 'cure' for trashed & noisy gears was sawdust in the oil(?).

Funny Story

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 09, 2008

Years ago I bought a nissan 4 wheel drive pick up truck. I test drove it before I bought it and the front gear box made a funny noise when engaged. The salesman said it would take a while to break in. After a few weeks it got worse. Took it back to the dealer 3 times, who couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it. Finally I went in really mad to complain. They told me they'd have their "4 wheel" guy look at it. After hanging around for a while, I find out their "4 wheel" guy is my neighbor. He tells me they told him to put 30 weight oil into the gear box to quiet it down cause the gears were chewed up. That was their usual solution to that problem. Since I was his neighbor, he told 'em it needed a new gear box, which they replaced, costing them a couple of thousand dollars, under warranty, on a new truck. Good thing he was my neighbor, otherwise I would have been out of luck and none the wiser.

Not exactly incredible.....

I retired several years ago. it has proven to be a smart move. I got out early on my own terms, rather than flame out. but the company did always provide worktime educational opportunities, like motivational speakers who explained their creative processes and their creative spark.

That motivational speakers program must have worked because I have numerous USA and EU patents.

One guest speaker was the man who invented and patented(!) the gasoline nozzle that shuts off when the gas pump is turned off. This nozzle feature was a response to the 1970's practice of holding the nozzle trigger "open" and draining the gas pump hose after turning off the pump in order to get free gas. All gas pumps today use this nozzle and that adds up to a lot of royalties.

This man made the observation that 90% of the 4X4 SUVs then being sold could be delivered without the driveshaft to the forward axle actually being installed because the drivers of those vehicles would never USE the 4X4 capability of their 4X4 SUV! And I have seen enough unskilled drivers who had no clue how to use 4X4 get into real trouble when they did attempt to use the 4X4 capability of their 4X4 vehicle. It isn't as easy as it looks.

The salesman said there was a button on the dash to engage 4WD? Did you even take this car for a test drive? Did you see the button? Did you engage 4WD to see if it even worked?

Incredible!

TAKE A LOOK AT ALL OF YOUR LOAN DOCUMENTS AND....

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 06, 2008

make sure that they are correct!! There might be a spot somewhere in the loan papers that says it's a 4 x 4 Tundra. If this is true, then you can sue them and win!!!!

Also make certain that they didn't put an EXTENDED WARRANTY in your loan without your knowledge!! You must contact the Bank where the truck is financed and get the loan documents that the Dealer sent to the Bank!! DO NOT TRUST YOUR LOAN DOCUMENTS FROM THE DEALER!!!!

NEVER trust your documents from ANY car dealer!! Always contact the Bank or Finance Company or Credit Union and demand ALL COPIES!!! This could be yours, and MILLIONS of people's TICKET TO FREEDOM in auto loans all over the USA!!!

Also, if Car Dealers can FALSIFY loan documents, then so can MORTGAGE LENDERS!!! All Americans should contact the MORTGAGE LENDER where their home is financed & get ALL COPIES of the legal documents, including ALL PROOF of INCOME that you submitted!! If they 'TAMPERED' or 'ALTERED' your paperwork, it could be your TICKET TO FREEDOM!!!!

Good luck!!
