Blockbuster Online seems like a crooked operation. I signed up with Blockbuster online on 11/25/06 and cancelled on 11/29/06, well within the two week trial period (the movies did not arrive when they said they would). My status was changed to "inactive" because I still had a movie out (shipped by Blockbuster on 12/5/06). However, it was returned on 12/07/06 and listed by Blockbuster as recieved on 12/14/06. Although I was listed as inactive and 0 movies in my que, they still allegedly shipped three movies on 12/01/06.
This is scandalous because: 1) I cancelled my subscription and recieved notification that 0 movies are now in my que 2) Never received the movies blockbuster allegedly shipped on 12/01/06 3) you are only supposed to receive three movies at a time and I aready had one out, which made a total of four 4)The three movies I never received mysteriously were listed as recieved by Blockbuster on 01/11/07, around the same time their billing cycle for me occurred.
Their Q&A
(Question) Will I be charged after canceling my account?
(Answer) Your online rental plan is pre-paid. So, each month of service is paid in advance. The only way you will be charged after you cancel is if you do not return the movies you have checked out. All movies must be returned with 10 days after your account becomes inactive.
I was charged twice on 01/11/07. In the description area are the two movies, 21.19 for each. So, if prove that I cancelled on time they can try to claim that I had these movies for two months.
Their phone number was given to me by my credit card company but customer service is not open on weekends (figures). If they do not correct this situation in a timely manner, my next step will be the Federal Trade Commission.

if you are able to access your account, just fill out the portion that says you never received the DVD's...
simple enough. i lost a few at home or i forget to even returned them so i just filled out that they never arrived. the dvd's were removed off the return que and i never had to worry about it.

Although my bank has credited me the money within a month of the incident, I, nor my bank has yet to receive a response from Blockbuster. Figures.

It is odd that you have been treated this way. I am an employee of Blockbuster and this has happened to a customer I've helped before. They didn't try to contact online themselves because they were older and really didn't understand how online worked etc. so I called Online customer service while they stood right in front of me and I explained the situation fully and upon talking to the customer they cancelled the account immediately and apologized for the problem as well as refunding the charge that had just occurred (this person caught it right away because their wallet had been stolen).
It is also interesting however that the person who stole your information would be able to open a Blockbuster Online account to begin with. When entering in credit card information it also asks for the name and address of the cardholder (which the gas station clerk wouldn't have known if you simply swiped your card) and the website has required this information for as long as it has existed to the best of my knowledge. For the clerk to have been able to obtain all of your information needed to open an account to begin with would have been quite a bit of work and somewhat troublesome and not to mention strange that an individual of that caliber would go to such trouble.
I have to also add that if you were to be able to get them to refund any money at all the best you might be able to get is 2 months, but more than likely only 1 month will be refunded. It is the individual's responsibility to check their bank statement more thoroughly and on a monthly basis at the very least.

THE CROOKS!

Blockbuster Online has got to be the most crooked business entity I have ever dealt with; someone used my bank card number to setup an account with out my knowledge or consent and I have been getting billed $20.oo a month for the last 6 months and just realized it last month when I was looking really close at my bank statements for a specific purchase in regards to a warranty issue and found them.
I contacted them right away and was told they can not cancel the membership, stop billing or refund any money charged my card since it was fraud!
Wait a second here; they said since the charges where FRAUD that can NOT stop billing me or close the account in my name!!
So the charges continue; they hit me again last night for the $20.oo fee and again tell me they can not stop the charges against my card; only the person that set up the account can!
I have contacted my bank and the US Attorney Generals Office and filed charges against them for Bank / Credit & Interstate Wire Fraud as well as Embezzlement.
I don't even utilize them; why would I when I literally live next door to another national video rental company.
I also noticed more then a few other charges I have no clue what they are and they have all made good on these charges. These all date back to a day that I used my card at an out of state gas station. I chased down the charges I made for fuel and snacks on a certain date; keep all my receipts for tax reasons when I travel on business, and I noticed that about 20 minuets after I left there where additional charges in a different amount on the card and many other small charges there over a several day period. I contacted that station and the police there and the Clark working at the time of my original charge has since been arrested and charged with credit card theft!
