I just got off the phone with Blockbuster. Apparently, in a weekened state I signed up for a 30 day trial in October of '09. It is now September of '12 and I just discovered I have been getting $9.63 debited from my account since then.

I know it's stupid of me, and it's on me for signing up in the first place. Having gotten that out of the way, shame on Blockbuster.com, who has never sent me an email stating that I haven't made any choices for my que, nor that my checking account has been debited. My wife spoke to the bank about this and said the most effective way to stop this is cancel my debit card.

Wrong.  I had my debit card stolen in March of this year and had no troubles with extra charges, but neither did Blockbuster. They somehow kept charging to the new card number.

When I spoke to a woman with a heavy Indian accent, she told me she would open a report, since it is Blockbuster.com policy to send these emails when there hasn't been any activity on an account's que. They refunded 3 months of the 35 they've been charging me for, and reccomended I speak with my bank about further action.

My point is this: Obviously Blockbuster is hurting over losing the popularity contest with companies like Redbox, but does that justify the very shady practice of taking advantage of some dummy like me and charging without notification for an account that has never had ANY activity other than the monthly charges coming in?

I'm glad your experience with Blockbuster has been great. My wife and I still go into the store occasionally to rent a video. Because of that, it doesn't send up any red flags when we see Blockbuster on our monthly statements. And I've already commented on my own opinion on my intelligence.

Just received an email regarding my phone call with them, they say they are refunding $9.63 to our account. Although they told me it would be for three months ($28.89). Can you see where I might be frustrated with Blockbuster.com?

I use Blockbuster too and have not had any problems so far.  What really gets me is that you didn't check your bank statements for three years! Seriously?
