I ordered a shirt from Cabela's internet site. It cost $40.17 with tax and handling. It didn't fit, and I returned it using the return label they enclosed with the shirt. I had to pay UPS $3.00 for the return. Cabela's got the shirt back and credited my charge account $25.25 !! Upon calling them for an explanation about the difference in "credit charged and credit returned", they informed me that they deducted $6.50 shipping and handling from the price of the shirt, in addition I wouldn't be reimbursed for the portion of the tax paid for shipping. Ultimately they credited back the $6.50, but do the math $25.25+$6.50 does not equal $40.17! So much for 100% satisfaction (their motto and guarantee prominently displayed on their website).

I am a customer service representative of Cabela's, and I believe I can break this down for you. Nowhere on our website or catalogs does it state that the original shipping and handling is refunded. It is Cabela's standard policy NOT to refund original shipping and handling on issues regarding sizing, customer errors, or customer's perspective. We are more than happy to refund the shipping when we are at fault.

That being said- your total of $40.17 cents sounds about right for the cost of the shirt (sounds like its around 25-27 dollars) plus the 7.95 cents for shipping that would have been charged for that price range.

Then we look at the return fee. Why you had to pay UPS $3, I'll never know. Those labels are pre-paid with UPS. It states clearly on the packing slip that using that label reduces your refund by $6.50. If you failed to notice that, that is your problem and not ours. Therefore (give or take a few cents or so for tax):
40.17-7.95=32.22-6.50=25.72. You were not short changed, and if you would have read carefully you would not have been surprised.

People reading this should know that our customer service associates will refund that $6.50 if you throw a big enough hissy fit. That should tell you something about the gentleman who wrote this essay.

Is there anything else we can do for you today?
Thanks for calling Cabela's! :)
