We purchased a cal spa hot tub less then 5 years ago. In the first 6 months the lid started sinking in. We had a 5 year extended warranty on the tub and the lid. We Contacted cal spa We have a letter from cal cover stating that the cover is not made for outside use. we made several attempts to have the lid replaced while it was under the warranty but were told it was not their problem and to go to the place of purchase. the place of purchase stared it was cal- spas problem. We contacted cal-cover who told us that the cover provided with the tub are made for indoor use only. We had been complaining to your company about it for over 4 years. it had an extended warranty of 5 years and neither cal spa nor Watson's of Indianapolis would take care of the problem. statistics show that 90% OF HOT TUBS ARE OUTSIDE. WE COMPLAINED TO EVERYONE...YOU SENT US TO THEM AND THEY SENT US TO YOU ETC.... They even have people who will drag you along by saying that they will help and then they don't fallow through. AS YOU WILL SEE FROM PAST COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE, THEY WILL HAVE A REBUTLE TO THIS COMPLAINT, BUT IT IS ALL CUSTOMER SERVICE CRAP! IF THEY HANDLED COMPLAINTS AS ACCURATELY AS THEY CLAIM, THEY WOULDN'T BE MENTIONED ON THIS SITE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! U.S.A. ONE OF MANY CUSTOMERS SCREWED BY CAL SPA FREEDOM OF SPEACH

since we have purchased our cal spa hot tub, cal spa has made promoses to us that they have either not kept or have dragged their feet keepong their promise. I thought that we came to an understanding that a check was coming within 2 to 3 weeks from the date that I faxed our paperwork to you. On 8/25 06 I FAXED YOU our paperwork. I then let you know tat it was faxed. Then I faxed it again to and let you know again, and asked you to confirm it. You confirmed that you received it and said that we would receive the check in 2 to 3 weeks ALONG WITH A UNCONDITIONAL 5 YEAR WARRANTY. I even gave you the bebefit of the doubt when it didn't arrive in 3 weeks. Now it has been a month and we have not received a check. I give up...Where is the check?

No I have not heard a thing. I have sent him what he asked for two seperate times. When I faxed them, I sent each document several times so I would be sure they got them. I also wrote on the fax to phone us so we know that it was received. I have also had that request on here. I am yet to hear anything back from them. This is how it was from day one. I am glad to read that you are finally going to have some resolution to this problem. I hope everything turns out positively.
Honestly, what is needed is some type of regulation to keep these people in check. Since they require full payment before the spas are delivered, they seem to lose intrest in a quality product. It seems that once the merchandise is delivered they wash their hands of the responsibility of maintaining it. The company seems to try to put blame on the customer. It is just not right.
I buy the warranties for all of my major appliances. Do you want to know the strange thing about it? When I call the company to tell them it is broken--they always come to fix it. I have just had my dishwasher serviced--and guess what? The tech came and replaced a part and now it works again. I had to wait two days for the service call--not two weeks. And he didn't try to blame me. He just fixed it...what a novel idea.
I would like to recommend that you report them to the local BBB and to the Attorney General in your state. I know that reporting this seems futile, but the more complaints they receive, the more negative publicity they will receive. Hopefully then they will then treat customers like valued clientele and not like the enemy.
I plan to report this company to my local television news station.
I wish I had done my homework on this company before I purchased my spa. I, along with you, am connected to this company for as long as I own the spa. I now know the meaning of living in "an abusive relationship."

SO FAR YOU AND YOUR STAFF HAVE IGNORED OUR WARRANTY, RAN US BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN YOU AND WATSONS, BROKEN PROMISES TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BROOKEN PROMISES TO SEND A CHEMICAL KIT AND THREATENED TO SUE ME FOR EXERCISING MY RIGHT TO FREE SPEACH. NOW YOU WANT TO TRY AND MAKE THINGS RIGHT.
YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT FROM THE START. AS I SAID BEFORE, WE HAVE NO NEED FOR THE CHEMICAL KIT. WE HAVE PLENTY OF CHEMICALS. BESIDES, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IF WE USE BROMINE OR CHLORINE. WHAT WE NEEDED WAS SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A COMPANY THAT STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. WE WERE FORCED TO RENT A TRUCK, DRIVE OVER AN HOUR TO TAKE THE OLD LID TO WATSONS, SPEND 2 HOURS TAKING ABUSE FROM THEIR STAFF AND BUY A NEW LID THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THEN DRIVE THE OLD AND THE NEW LID BACK HERE BECAUSE THEY DECIDED THEY DIDN'T WANT THE OLD ONE BACK.YOU KNOW WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU.
WE ARE OUT THE PRICE OF THE LID AND THE RENTAL TRUCK. EVEN IF YOU SENT THE CHEMICAL KIT THAT DOS NOT MAKE UP FOR WTAHT YOUR COMPANY HAS DONE. I COULD OVER LOOK THE RENTAL TRUCK IF YOU HAD ONLY STOOD BEHIND THE WARRANTY. BUT YOUR COMPANY DECIDED NOT TO DO THAT, EVEN AFTER EVA PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF IT. NOW YOU WANT ME TO CALL YOU.....YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE THIS RIGHT!!!!!!!!

CAL SPAS IS NOT TO BLAME!!!

In these situations, we have to agree to just disagree. Our last rebuttal is self explanatory and we believe we did everything to assist you within reason.
Your cover, whether you had a basic, standard or deluxe were well over the warranty period from the time you called Cal Spas. If this was an ongoing issue with your selling dealer and you were not obtaining results or satisfaction, the Cal Spas Limited Warranty clearly state " In the event the consumer is unable to obtain service from the authorized selling dealer or service agent, written notification must be given to C.A.I. Customer Relations Department within (10) days of the reported failure." If you were having these cover problems for 4 years, you have failed to contact us as stated in your warranty.
We apologize that we could not provide you with the free cover you were looking for but once again, it was not our product that failed. You are entitled to your opinion and apologize if you feel your salesperson did not offer you the upgraded cover options back in 2001. However the selling dealer did back up that cover with a 5 year warranty.
We thank you for your comments and want to let you know that your voice was heard. Our Sales team will ensure all of our dealer network explains to their consumers the difference between all the covers we offer. We do not want this situation to arise again and Cal Spas will send you a complimentary chemical kit and vinyl protectant for your new cover. Thanks again for all your efforts.

WHAT A CROCK OF BS!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM CAL SPA!

YOU ARE RIGHT, CAL SPA DID NOT MANUFACTURE THE LIDS. HOWEVER CAL SPA HAS REFUSED TO STAND BY THE LID FOR OVER 4 YEARS OF COMPLAINTS. ALSO THE LID THEY REPLACED IS NOT A DELUXE COVER THAT RETALIS FOR $500 TO $700. IT IS A $200 LID (THE PRICE WAS ON THE BOX). BASICALLY THE SAME ONE WE ALREADY HAD, AND WE STILL HAD TO PAY $100 FOR IT.
WE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY ANYTHING.
IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO MANUFACTURES THE LIDS. THE CAL SPA NAME IS ON IT. BASIC COVERS ARE SOLD WITH ALL OF YOUR MODELS AND UPGRADES ARE NOT SUGGESTED BY THE SELLER OR IN ANY OF YOUR PAPERWORK. WHY SALE A BASIC COVER AT ALL. THEY SHOULD ALL BE MADE TO TAKE THE ELEMENTS OF WIND, RAIN AND SNOW. MOST HOT TUBS ARE OUTSIDE. HOW ABOUT SHIPPING THE PROPPER LID TO FIT THE AREA WE LIVE IN. WE ARE IN INDIANA. WE HAVE RAIN, SNOW, ETC.
I TALKED TO CAL COVER. THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT WERE WILLING TO WORK WITH US AND ''THEY JUST MANUFACTURE THE LIDS TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS.'' THE COVER RECEIVED IS NOT WHAT WE WERE SUPOSED TO GET. WE RECEIVED THE BASIC COVER WHEN WE WERE SUPOSED TO GET THE DELUXE COVER. WATSON'S OF INDIANAPOLIS SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE THAT WERE WERE GETTING WHAT WE ORDERED. I WAS OUT SIDE TWICE A WEEK TAKING CARE OF THE COVER. UP UNTIL A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, THE OUTSIDE OF THE COVER LOOKED BRAND NEW. THE INSIDE HOWEVER HAD BEEN SINKING IN FOR OVER 4 YEARS. WE COMPLAINED AND JUST LIKE THE OTHERS ON THIS SITE YOU DID NOTHING TO MAKE IT RIGHT!
I BELIEVE YOU SAID...

WE DID NOTICE WHEN WE WERE AT THE STORE, THAT ALL THE LIDS WERE NOW MUCH THICKER. HOWEVER, WE KNOW THAT YOU HAVE HAD MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE COVERS. WE HAVE SEEN IT ON OTHER WEB SITES AND BY TALKING TO FRIENDS. IN OTHER WORDS, WHEN YOU FINALLY RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS, YOU ARE NOW SELLING THE TUBS WITH THE PROPPER LIDS. HOWEVER, WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU SCREWED OUT OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY IN THE PAST. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT A SMALL TOY. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT AN EXPENSIVE HOT TUB. THESE SHOULD NOT HAVE SEPERATE WARRANTIES FOR EACH PATR. IT SHOULD HAVE ONE WARRANTY THAT COVERS THE WHOLE TUP TOP TO BOTTOM.

CAL SPAS DOES NOT MANUFACTURE SPA COVERS

Cal Spas does not manufacturer lids/covers for our spas. There are many vendors that do manufacture the covers that come with their own limited warranty. We currently do business with Cal Cover, which is not owned by Cal Spas or any affiliates.
Cal Cover supplies us with a Basic cover, Standard Cover, or Deluxe Cover depending on the purchase order. The Basic cover is designed for spas that are indoors or are in an enclosure such as a gazebo or underneath a patio. Basic covers can be used for outdoors provided they are properly cared for but are not meant to withstand extreme weather conditions nor abuse.The Basic covers come with a 90 day manufactures warranty.
The Standard covers are now designed cascading that are 5-3" and carry a one year warranty. The deluxe covers are now also designed with a 5-3" cover but have a thicker vinyl to substand severe weather conditions such as heavy rains, snow or sleet and carry a 3 year manufactures warranty.
This " Freedom of Speech" customer had a 2001 spa. All fo our spas get shipped with a basic cover unless the dealer/customer decide to upgrade which is always an option. The selling dealer did provide the customer with a 5 year warranty on the cover and although that warranty expired in March of 2006, the selling dealer went above and beyond the call of duty and offered the customer a deluxe cover for $100.00 when a deluxe cover retails for a price of $500-$700 depending on delivery area.
So in conclusion, complaints are addressed and each case is taken into careful consideration. Our dealers offer to the consumer was definately within reason and wish the consumer the best. I hope this will clarify things and thank you for your time and for choosing Cal Spas.
