Back in 1999/2000 I purchased a Ford Tempo from Calcars. I was very excited. My dad had to cosign and I paid well over $5,000 for it. Three days after I bought the car, it broke down. They told me they could not fix it because I bought it "as is". Well I wasn't one of their ignorant customers. I knew about the Lemon Law. So they said they would fix it. they even had their own mechanics to do it. It took them over a month to put in a rebuilt engine into the car and a few minor things as well. Two weeks after I got the car back, the brakes went bad. I went to my own mechanic this time. The car never stopped needing repairs.
One evening, my payment was due. but I had to work so I couldn't bring in the payment until the following morning. One of the salesmen called my job telling me I had to bring in the money. I told him I was at work, and couldn't leave..and I would have it tomorrow. He yelled at me, telling me I had to borrow the money from someone and bring it down. So just to save arguement. I tried and could not find someone to do that for me. The same car salesmen at CalCars called me SIX times within an hour! Harrassing me, telling me I needed to bring in the money or they were going to repoe the car.
I can't remember what I told him, but I called my mom and told her what he was doing, so she called him and told him if he didn't stop harrassing me, she was going to contact a lawyer. That's when the phone calls stopped. they did get their money the following morning, and pretending the night before never even happened.
I know a few other people who purchased cars through them, and have had similar problems. I WILL NEVER buy another car from CalCars, and I tell anyone I know, who is looking to buy a car, to buy one from them either. I got ripped off and so will everyone else who goes through them!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Lemon law only applies to brand new vehicles!!

Like many of you that have bought vehicles at Calcars and do nothing but complain, you are obviously not well informed consumers. A lemon law can only be applied to vehicles that have never been previously owned and has been in for the same repair more than four times in six months. A USED car with probably more than 100,000 miles on it does not qualify under said law.
As far as your payment goes, you agreed to terms regardless of your delay at your employment. What you are saying is that Calcars was not a priority. If you were in jail and needed to be bailed out that evening, I bet you could find somebody to get bail money to the jail house.
Think about what you are complaing about..... YOU picked out a used car, Calcars offered financing with a few stipulations and all you can do is complain because these people wanted you to fulfill your end of the agreement.

I purchased a car through CalCars back in 1999/2000. I was very excited. I was just a waitress and needed transportation. My father had to co-sign on a 1994 Ford Tempo. It cost me a little over $5,000! Three days after I purchased the car, it broke down on me. I asked them to fix it and they refused, telling me that I bought the car "as is" and they are not responsible.
Well, I'm not one of the ignorant customers they are used to. I knew about the Lemon Law. So they changed their mind and said they had their own mechanics who can fix it for me. It took them a month to put in a rebuilt engine and a few minor repairs.
Two weeks after that, the brakes needed fixed. Throughout the two years I owned the car, I had to put on tires, brakes, altenator, rotors, etc. One particular evening, when my payment was due...I had to go to work, so I wasn't able to make the payment until the following morning.
One of the salesmen called my job telling me I had bring in the money or they were going to come repoe the car. I told him I had the money but I was at work. He yelled at me, telling me I had to borrow the money from someone and have them come down and make the payment. I told him I would try. Nobody was available to make the payment for me. The same salesman called me six more times within just an hour harrassing me, telling me I had to pay or they were going to repoe the car.
Finally my mother called CalCars, told them if they continued to call and harrass me at work then she was going to contact a lawyer. They stopped calling. I brought in the payment the very next morning, and they acted as if the night before never happened. no apologies. nothing.
A few other people I know personally alos purchased cars through CalCars. and they have had very similar problems as well. I will never buy another car from them, and I will never advise anyone else to buy a car from them, no matter how desperate they are. it is not worth it!
