My BBB report, here's the tracking number:
xx

I purchased this laptop and discovered shortly after that it's specifications were inferior to those advertised online. I attempted to deal with the issue by making a local call to their store in hamilton, they couldn't help me but attempted to mislead me into thinking that the video chipset for this laptop is an intel 950, which according to lg, it is not, it is their basic f1 model which comes with an intel 900.

I paid for a laptop with an intel 950 video chipset, and windows xp pro. As advertised on their website (though they've modified the video chipset in their ad after recieving several of my complaints). I called head office approximately a week later, and was referred back to the mississauga store.

Several calls later, almost 3 weeks later I finally get told that I am to deal with my issue with pat lau. He mentioned other models, said he would take care of the software registrations and the issues with regards to the restocking fees both stores had insisted (which I said I shouldn't have to pay). The whole time I mentioned I want what I paid for, I paid for a product with certain specifications and thus I should get that, and no, not for extra money. The store seems to think that I should pay the difference.

I seem to think that I shouldn't because I've already spent about $30 on long distance calls to their head office and mississauga store, as well as to pat lau (the figure includes cellphone usage, which I pay $.40 cents a minute for on pay as you go). I am also out a day of work, as I felt that after 5 weeks that it was about damned time I get this dealt with because I geniunely feel ripped off.

At the time I also needed to pickup my court papers in preparation of getting an absolute resolution to this problem. I am leaving for calgary shortly. I had the option to go and work for my uncle's work, but I can't exactly do that with such a nasty problem because one way or another I'm leaving with a laptop; I might have misled the people I dealt with into thinking I already picked up a ticket, a tactic I employed to increase urgency on the issue.

For two weeks so far I was fooled into thinking that it would be a straight exchange, I walk in with this laptop and get a new one without any extra money or anything. The reason why that was, is because I was offered to do that with a p1-5001a9, which did not come with windows xp pro. He then suggested the p1-5002a9, which I agreed would be sufficient but then neglected to really pay attention that the hard drive is PATA, which certainly is not what I want since SATA is what I originally paid for.

Either way no deals were honoured and thus today I have given my ultimatum, either I get what I paid for or I sue. And when I sue, I'll have my court papers filed this week, I trust that not a whole lot can get done during the holidays but a day or two after new years and I'm off to calgary. This presents an extra complication considering I will have to return to deal with the pre-trial, which also involves further loss of wages and expenses for a two-way plane ticket. I will have to do the same for the trial as well.

Now I don't think it's entirely fair that I don't get what I paid for, and I certainly don't think it's fair that I pay the difference for an exchange just to GET WHAT I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET, in their advertisement. This company does not reserve the right to call such things typos since they are not, and they do not reserve the right to change the specs of a computer whenever they want considering that would give them the legal means to falsely misrepresent everything they sell.

Either way they don't reserve the right to change the specs after I saw the ad, went in and paid for the laptop in cash and in full. This is a bait and switch. A false misrepresentation which I can legally prove. Either they honour their ad, or I will have them honour it by order of a court of law. They don't seem to be taking my request seriously.

I don't just want my money back. I would like the product which I was lead to believe I was paying for, not this inferior model. Anyways if they can afford to not honour their ad then I will follow through with my legal actions, and I don't think that's best for everybody. I'd rather have the $70 to $150 in filing fees in my pocket.

I would rather not have to deal with these headaches. I feel quite ripped off, I could have bought better elsewhere, it was just easier and faster doing it here, since I need this to do work for my home business. I don't know if there's any liability on lg's part, though I have my doubts if there is any -- though the area rep could have miscommunicated specifications to the head office of canada computers and thus lies an explanation for most of my problem.

This is a rediculous amount of time to spend dealing with this problem. I've had my work interupted by calls at work (which I was let go from). I mean business either they honour their ad, and if it be through added value or other means, compensate me for my losses over this, then I'll be a happy camper; if not then I have a case to file shortly and the facts are such that I will win, all additional expenses will ad up. It might even be easier just to hire a lawyer than make a trip back, though that'll probably end up being more expensive.
-------------

Today LG has once again confirmed that my laptop comes with an Intel 900 video, and xp home. I have enough proof to go forward with my lawsuit, if suitable arrangements are not met.

I also had a talk with the area rep and was informed that he would make the exchange with canada computers (as it was authorized) and therefore they are getting the better model when I return my laptop (as far as I understand), since pat lau mentioned the exchange was completely taken care of on his end and would be done at their cost (which he suggested was for $917).

That means this store had profited $33 for selling me the laptop in the first place, but now stood to profit a couple hundred more for a fair exchange. I am now ignoring any calls about an offer where I have to pay more to get what I paid for in the first place. I was offered the lg-p15002a9 by pat lau that is what I should recieve (although additional problem is that it comes with a PATA hard drive, not a SATA which I wanted to get and had paid for).

The laptop I was promised has a value of $1499 retail, the one I have is $950 retail. There the mississauga store would likely pocket an extra $550, and all because they sold me a laptop under false misrepresentation.

I think what they are doing is low, and I will not formally withdraw any of my complaints without having satisfactory resolution of my complaint, if I have to sue then I won't ever withdraw them and they will reside all over the internet for people to see when they do research on canada computers when they plan on making purchases.

I am also considering as yet another intermediary step, contacting silverman helps from city tv, since I have all of the evidence I need and a very public appears would be deserving of this whole ordeal. I am out alot of time and money because of this, I won't just settle for my money back.

Back off on the conspiracy theories, their HQ consists of Chinese immigrants who don't understand the English language. I'm sure it was an honest mistake (typo). The fact that they announce IN their ads that they are not responsible for their mistakes makes your cause null and void. They promptly corrected the advertisement once they learned of the mistake as per law (do you honestly believe they crafted a bait and switch just for you?). The only thing they didn't do correct was give you back your money and get rid of your dumb a*s. You're arguing about getting a 900 series gfx card instead of a 950, the difference is 67 Mhz and 268 megapixles per second.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_900 compare the stats and do the math

Perhaps taking into account that Pat from LG was trying to get you the laptop would imply they are dealing with guilt. Which to me means it was an LG mistake, they probably told Canada Computer's the wrong specifications.
