I received a letter (envelope with no return address) from Capital Billing Service, 5042 Wilshire Blvd #880, Los Angeles, CA 90036-4305, dated October 16, 2015. I have PO, so I got this about October 24. Letter states Capital represents Readers Clearinghouse and I owe $878.90.  About 15 yrs ago I took a 1 yr sub for a daughter of a friend of my daughter who is in "Daisys' (Girl Scouts) to earn her a badge.  I never resubscribed. I started getting mags I've never heard of and each time and each one I called THAT mag and cancelled explaining the situation and ASKING WHY I was getting their mag? "someone gave us your name/address!"  WAS NOT ME!  This went on for more than 1 yr!  Mags stopped.  I never subscribed to ANY mag other than that one for that child.15 yrs ago.   I've never gotten ANY "notice" that my subsciption is about to expire, the normal "ploy" of mag subs.  I worked for a mag publishing co so I know the "workings" of those publications.   As far as this $878.90, I owe no magazine a cent.  Also, stated "this office will obtain verification of the deb  or a copy of the judgement against you and mail a copuy of the verification or judgement to you. If you request n 30 days after your receipt of this notice this office will prove you with the name and address of the original creditor if different from the current creditor." ..............original creditor vs currect creditor?  how many creditors have filed against me? I've never received notice of any judgement placed on me either!

This is a fraud scam. I do not know anything about this situation.  Will be reporting this to the BBB in Los Angeles tonight online.  And attempt to contact Capital Billing.  Have read on YOUR site that others calling their phone # are listening to music for 30 min+.

last week while researching/investigating Capital Busines magazine their letter and calls I happen to run across another differen online merchant who I'm having tons of trouble with even as I speak. They do have a way to communicate online and it is definitely intense which is good for the buyer as I could/did write all that transpired. Response? Basically, tough. Emails to me showed otherwise, the truth, but their stand is that I ordered 3 shirts, when I ordered 1, 2 headbands when I ordered 1, merchandise on the 1 that was cancelled was mailed to me "smashed" inside the 2 shirts I did not order, taped and retaped into a "ball" with all writing in Chinese except my name/address and of course charged for merchandise I did not order and/or have not received.  the order of cancellation is marked "cancelled" but the items have been sent and credit card charged. I reported to credit card today and when Dispute Dept is open tomorrow will be reporting this entire situation. I did see that name....Sammydresss.com and my heart "froze" and read where other customers have/are experiencing the same as I.  I did tell the company about it, as well.  I've cancelled credit cards so there is no more charges they might attempt to charge for cancelled items and/or not ordered items but charged for them anyway, then either that merchandise also sent or not sent but definitely charged.  The "real" one $38.50. The 'false" $61.90. no telling what they will attempt for the "cancelled" merchandise. To date, they stopped once they got my emails which are detailed to them per their request.   Am grateful for this site to show to others the severity of companies whether it be false/scam magazines which now I have 2 ongoing ones or a site that sells really pretty merchandise for very nominal prices and puts the customer thru what I've endured all week from this one company.  Thanks to all for listening and pray you are not one of those I read who have been caught up in the Sammydress.com "charging" nightmare.   Melody Mountain Home Arkansas

Got a NEW one from Florida

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 29, 2015

This morn, Oct 29, woman calls with same ? "are you getting your mags on time?" 3rd call this week so I started questioning! seems this one is North American Reader who tells me I have "active accounts" that are 4 yrs old. Told her, as the Capital folks, no mag sub for 15 yrs. She then assures me that she has put my # on "no call list." Out of curiosity, I went to computer, typed in the 1-855 (that's where its bad already( she gave me).  Lead me to the BBB in Florida where the same phone # is given to the BBB and me, too. Recording states not working number although that BBB takes complaints on this company.  So now, for me, this is 2 fraud mag companies calling me with whatever story they are spitting out and whatever ploy they are pulling to obtain $. 3 xs since Monday, it's Thursday and I'm worn out from investigating and reporting these places but will not stop until they stop.    Melody Mountain Home, Arkansas

A call from a woman asking if I was getting my mags "on time?"

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 29, 2015

yesterday, Tuesday, about 9:30 am- 10:00 am, phone rang and a nice sounding woman said 'Hi,I'm calling to insure you are getting  your magazines on time!"  No name or company name!

I said......"ma'm, who are you and what company are you representing? I do not have any magazine subscriptions nor have I for the past 15 yrs. Not getting any now on time nor do I want any now or ever. Silence on her part. I asked again what is your name and what company do you represent and how did you get my unlisted phone number? I've had a letter stating I owe over $800 on mag subs of which I never had nor owe and now you are "fitting" into this "picture" of non-committal harrassment.  She hung up.  I followed your suggestion "don't worry about this scam/fraud" but when my home phone is called and a call is "connected" to magazine reception of which I get none just 2 days after getting this letter stating I owe $800+, now I find it hard to just "forget this" scam.

So I will be copying the posts from the site where other folks have gotten letters stating they owe $$ and do not and report this + the phone call I just got to the BBB in Los Angeles and the CA Attorney General.    Thanks for your guidance and support.

A similar report against a different California bill collector was filed as

http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/civil-complaint-services/nationwide/civil-complaint-services-collegiate-housing-services-Intent-to-collect-an-outrageous-debt-1264011

The name of this company is Civil Complaint Services and they also operate from a private mailbox in California.  Their website is at http://www.civilcomplaint.net/home.html

Despite two different company names at two different addresses and two different websites with different URL's both home pages look much the same to me. Same artwork, same services. So is this two different scammers or one scammer with two business names?

Thanking the rebuttal explaining what this "company" is doing/attempting.

Thank you for your quick response-explanation re: this "collection company's" actions. I will follow your suggestion and report to the CA Attorney General, and will include postings showing this "company" attempts to "hit" nationwide.  Where or how they get names and mailing addresses is beyond me but used to - maybe still does?  one could pay a PO X amount of $, claiim they are a collection agency and/or nonprofit and for that small fee, be provided names of the PO Box owners.

Thank the caring person who set things straight and allowed me to beathe a bit easier with some guidance, as well.

Ignore this company

This is a fake company.

5042 Wilshire Blvd is the home of "Wilshire Mailbox."  That's right - one of the company's mailing addresses is a PO Box and the street address is also a mailbox.  How credible! Makes you wonder where all the employees (there must be hundreds, maybe even thousands of employees) work?

Their website has advertising for other parties.  This means it is from one of those "free" hosting services and this company cannot even put up the money for their own website.

There is no license number listed for any state.  Gee, wonder why?

There is a statement in their privacy policy that a collection agency can sue only in Superior Court.  I wonder what state that refers to because in my state whether you sue in Justice Court or Superior Court depends entirely on how much you sue for, not the type of business.

Bottom line is that this is a phony operation trying to make a few bucks by scaring people with threats of legal action they are unprepared to take.

You might want to report this to the CA attorney general.
