Recently, my investment company debited my checking account that I was closing for 2 investments opposed to one. This caused a flurry of checks to bouce. Unfortunalety, they had to have checks cut from their home office to credit me back the extra money they took from my account, but as we all know that takes time. In the interim, they sent me a letter on company letter head that I could send to all of the companies that checks had bounced stating by no fault of my own did the check that I wrote bounce.
Within the past 2 weeks, I received 2 letters from Certegy Payment Recovery, however each in different states. Upon contacting the Ceretegy office in St. Petersburg FL regarding my first account, they requested that I fax over the letter from the investment company, and upon receipt they would waive the $30 Returned Check Charge.
Now, I contacted the other Certegy office in Tuscaloosa (1-800-873-5869) on 04-19-04 and spoke to Dana. I informed Dana of what happened, and she requested that I fax over a letter to their office (205-750-4129)and stated that upon receipt they would waive the returned check fee as well. I faxed over the letter this morning, 04-20-04 and in addition, I wrote in the letter that I will remit full payment of the debt owed on 04-30-04, via a money order. Later tonight I received a call from Grosroco a collection agent employed by Certegy. She referenced my account, and I asked her if she read the notes on the account before calling (for obvisouly she didnt.) She then said that oh yes, I see the notes, and that they received the fax today. She then went onto say that Certegy doesnt waive returned check fees. I said boy thats funny, because I just faxed over a letter the other day to your St Petersburg office and they had no problem removing it. She then went on to say in a very rude manner, that it is their office policy not to refund the fee. How could one office differ from the offer? Dont their own employees know of this policy? For the night before, I called and spoke to Dana they said they would!
At that point, I requested to speak to her supervisor. She put me on hold for a few minutes, and a gentlemen got on the phone and said his name was Ben Stevens. He asked me "what my side of the story was". I then asked him for his title. He stated that he did not have a title. A supervisor not have a title? Something didnt sound right? I then asked him if he was even a supervisor and he stated that he was not. Hmmm...thats funny, you introduce yourself as one, however, when I asked him directly all of a sudden he wasnt one? He went on to say that all of the supervisor lines were busy, thats why he took the call. Well I was never told that, nor did I have the option of holding to speak to a supervisor. I then requested to speak to a "real" supervisor. He said that there were many there, and started becoming very rude and evasive. Finally, I was able to pry out of him that he will leave a message with the " Night Lead", Frank Right a message to contact me by tonight. Well guess what no call. I called back and left a message with him, and still wait for his call. However, their office has now closed.
Certegy is trying to rip people off! Their employees falsify their positions, and lie to you. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing. This is not a company policy, so obvisouly they can waive the fee. I have provided them with sufficent enough documentation, and will NOT pay the additional $30.00. I also asked if they could transfer my account to the St Petersburg office, and I was denied. BEWARE!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
You Received Incorrect Information From The First Person You Talked To
AUTHOR: Vicki - (U.S.A.)

The corrrect procedure would have been to tell you to make arrangements to pay the for your checks that bounced to the stores that you wrote the checks at take the letterhead you have from the company stating that the checks bounced because of another's error. THE COMPANY where you wrote the checks MAY waive the fees. Certegy doesn't waive them.
Hope this helps.
