Textbook buybacks, beware!
I went online to sell a pile of recent textbooks.
Chegg.com offered the most money for the books, so I did their internet free-shipping deal. They didn't want all of my books, TextbooksRUS took three of them, I could have sent them all of them but they offered less.

I immediately got about $47 from TextbooksRUS.
I got emails from Chegg rejecting ALL my books, which were in decent shape, claiming they didn't meet their standards. I got NOTHING, rather than the $150 I was expecting.

The deal on these is, they pay the shipping if you agree they can donate books that don't meet their standards. I think these books met their standards, one of them at least should have, all were decent shape. No way to tell if they dump them or resell them anyway, they were current and expensive books.....

It is easier to resell online than lugging heavy college books back to bookstores where they may or may not take them. In our case these were books from 3 colleges, and often college stores don't take back books from other colleges.

It just seems that Chegg should have sent me SOME money for my books. . .BEWARE

Im sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing experience at Chegg.  $150 is a lot of money no one would want to lose, so I can certainly understand your frustration.

If you would contact us again, I would be happy to look into the matter.  Im a supervisor, and you can reach me at David@Chegg.com.

Without any of your contact information on this complaint, I cant really say why Chegg specifically rejected these books.  We gladly buy books which are in nice shape to rent to other students, and want everybody to save money saving and earn some, too!  Its in our best interest to deal with people fairly; I know we do, so Id like to know how we failed in your case.

Without knowing the details of what occurred, I can only address this situation in a most general way:

Books which do not meet the condition standards which we list on our website are among those rejected; other books are those which we find are teachers editions or international editions.  We clearly indicate that those books are not rentable, so we dont buy them, and we hope this dissuades customers from sending them.  If they are still sent to us, they are then donated to our recycling program.

In this case, you obviously disagree with our assessment, and timely correspondence with Chegg would have resulted in a speedy second evaluation.  Perhaps you did contact us and the books were still considered to be unacceptable; without your identifying information, I cant tell you with absolute certainty what happened.  But Id love the chance to see if there is a problem we need to rectify especially that of one student out there as unhappy with Chegg as over a million others are pleased!

Please contact me so I can see what Chegg can do, and, hopefully, we can turn this around!

We hope to speak to you soon.

Best regards,

David Dwyer
