Citifinancial in Lexington, Kentucky, just threatened me today with repossession of a 1999 Oldsmobile on a $3,100 loan balance that is only two weeks behind because I could not pay a $10 late fee.  When I said I was going to let every person with whom I am acquainted know how unreasonable Citifinancial is and make certain no one known to me borrows from them, I was informed that Citifinancial no longer makes loans.  No wonder!  The remaining Citifinancial offices are nothing but collection agencies for Main Source.  Main Source took them over. Do not borrow from Main Source.  They are all the same bottom feeders and predatory lenders.

Heartless Greed

AUTHOR: Candace - ()

POSTED: Sunday, August 18, 2013

Yes, I have a hundred excuses, about none of which Citifinancial need to be concerned.  Breast cancer diagnosed in 2012, double mastectomy, three surgeries over eight months, $3,000 in maximum out of pocket costs associated with that treatment that I have absorbed over the past six months.  I am 60 years old and raise two grandchildren, ages 9 and 10.  I am blessed to have a job and health insurance and, to date, to be cancer free.  I live paycheck to paycheck, and $10 to Citifinancial is $10 less in groceries that I will have to feed my grandchildren.

Yes, I signed a contract, the terms of which are all in favor of Citifinancial.  That 's how they take advantage of the ignorance of people like me, not to mention charging the maximum interest rate allowed by law to the people who can least afford it.  Are you so short-memoried to have forgotten?  I's kinda the same thing Citifinancial did in the housing industry.  As I recall, Citifinancial and others have paid millions in association with that debacle. It's one reason why Citifinancial went belly-up, isn't it?  It's called greed.

I can only hope that neither you nor any of the members of the board of directors and officers of Citifinancial who are concerned over a ten-dollar late fee is forced to face the hardships I and tens of thousands of their other victims/customers face each and every day.  Anyone who enjoys doing collections, such as it seems you do, are either heartless or so hard up for a job they have no choice.  It makes one wonder which it is you are.  I am happy you sleep so well at night with your righteous, holier-than-thou attitude.  Have a nice day and may you and Citifinancial choke on that $10.

Really?

At what dollar amount should they then be allowed to reposess your car?  Should they be required to wait until you are $100 behind?  How about $50?  Can they reposess your car when you are only $25 behind?  At what loan balance should they no longer be allowed to reposess your car?   $1000, $2000, $3000, if your loan balance was $3200 would they be allowed to reposess your car?  Seriously you do see how silly your "complaint" is don't you.

The fact that you seem to be glossing over is that you are(were?) two weeks late.  Did they reposess your car then?   The fact is that if you are even a day late they have the legal right to reposess your car.  Yet that doesn't even dawn on you does it?  Now, yes you are going to probably come up with 101 excuses as to why you didn't pay and they should just let you pay on your own schedule without any concequences.  But you will find that not one of your excuses are in the legally binding contract you signed when they loaned you several thousand dollars in return for you making payments on specific days for a specific amount.

More specifically for your case.  You admit you were late, so one can figure that the late fee is legitimate and owed by you(which by the way if it is only $10..that is very low by todays standards).  If you are unable to afford the $10 then I really hate to say this but it is really only a matter of time before you become late again..and next time they may not be as forgiving and just reposess your car instead.
