Clearview Builders they should be in jail and may be soon. Big Ripoff In Brodheadsville Pennsylvania

In February of 2002 we signed a contract to have Clearview Builders build our custom home. We sat with what we were told was the architect, and paid them the initial $4000 for the home plans. They misrepresented him. This man was a complete idiot with probably nothing more then a HS education and no training as an architect and he designed our house. Scary.

The construction was supposed to take 3-6 months. So we sold our house and waited. It was one problem after the other. We were dealing with spiteful people who cared nothing about the customer once they had your money. We were supposed to close in Oct, then Nov, Dec, etc. They knew we sold our house anticipating the closing and had no where to live I was also pregnant. They didn't care, they had our money!

Weeks and weeks would go by with NOTHING being done on the construction. When we questioned them, the answer was, the house will be done, when its done. Then, they stopped returning our phone calls completely. NICE. The owner was untouchable, we left probably 30 or so messages for him to call us when the rest of the staff stopped returning our calls. Every Sunday we went there and the house looked exactly the same as the week before.

Where was our money going? Why weren't the contractors working? I sent letter after letter to the Better Business Bureau, that was a joke, for anyone who doesn't know, these businesses pay dues to belong to the Better Business Bureau and they don't do anything for the consumer except sent a letter to the business you are complaining about.

I sent a letter to the Attorney Generals office, they never responded. They probably had so many complaints about them, they couldn't keep up with the paper flow. Needless to say, after I contacted the bank and signed an affidavid to not release the final payment and threatened to change the locks on my house and have them all arrested for trespassing, the owner called us back. He actually came to the house, shook our hand, appologized and told us he would take care of everything. He was the owner and we should trust him.

We closed in April of 2003, 14 months later. The house was NOT finished but they signed a bunch of statements that they would finish the work, so I released the money and guess what, they never finished the house. What a surprise, they had our money, and they didn't have to do another thing. We never heard from the owner again, leaving message after message that the house was untouched again.

Never trust anyone with your money and always get it in writing. This Texan was so smooth and we believed him, thinking he really cared about his business, his reputation as a builder and referrals. Beware of most of the sub contractors that worked for them.

My foyer walls are crooked, the stairs weren't up to spec and both had to be ripped out. The tiles they broke, sat on the floor for over a year until we recently had them replaced, I can't do laundry when its cold because the pipes freeze and we had 3 floods in the house from that. The kids rooms are so cold from improper insulation that we have electric heaters in their rooms at night to keep them warm. The closets in our bedroom are so cold, on really cold days, you can see your breath in the morning when you walk in them. They never put in a sump pump to pump the dry well and we were flooded in the basement several times from that too. ALL the windows in the house have leaked at one time or another, ruining all the window sills. The front stairs were dropped there crooked, and critters are living under there, we have no choice but to fix that soon. The land grading is all uneven, you can see where they seamed the carpets, nails are popping out everywhere and you can see the seams in all the ceilings and some of the walls.

I could go on and on. It would take an hour to explain everything. I know we had a terrible time with them and they made the experience of building a house, a nightmare but I really feel terrible for the others who have lost a lot of money now that they closed up. We have met some people with horrible stories to tell about Clearview, many of them were taken for quite a lot of their hard earned money. We are fixing what needs to be done in our house.

Keep the faith and remember, what goes around, comes around. Just rest knowing that quite a few of them in CLEARVIEW BUILDERS will be spending their time in a 6X9 prison cell and when that days comes it will be sweet justice for all. Even if some day they do decide to open up under another name, there are so many victims that one of us will find out and spread the word. Good Luck to all who have been ripped off by them.
