First I signed up with Columbia House on the promise that I would receive a mini iPod from one of those rip-off "freebie" offers. I did not receive it when fulfilling the requirements and battled with that company until I finally gave up.

Then I cancelled my account with Columbia House and told them why. They repeatedly send me notices that I owed them money to fulfill my contract. I finally send them a check for $87.76, amount owed, and chose four videos to send to fulfill the contract. I also sent a letter making the cancellation clear.

They cashed the check on 01/24/05 and a month later I had received nothing. They did not answer any emails and the number was not on the website. I found it here, thank god.

After calling, they had the movies I orderd on file and could offer no real explanation for not sending them. The account was cancelled, the check was cashed and the movies were withheld. They said something about sending me certificates--which i never received. Also, they tried to charge my credit card, even though I had always paid by check and had so for my final bill. They had no intentions of ever sending the movies I paid for, until I called. Supposedly, I will receive them right away.

I will wait and see. Never use Columbia House, unless you want to pay for something that you will never receive!

YES they are..they cheated me out of over $110 in free dvds and their sister music club Columbia House BMG cheated me out of 15 free cds..plus they cheated a friend of mine out of 6 free dvds..they are guilty of breach of contract and false advertizement..I guess you'll have to be cheated too before you see the truth!!

Colombia House is not a rip-off!

Like you I became a member of Colombia House through one of those things where you have to sign up with so many sponsers to receiver a free gift.

I paid $13 to Colombia House, and within about two weeks I received the 5 free dvds. All I paid was shipping and handling! So far no rip off. I've since bought an additional 5 dvds and received all of them. Whats better is I don't think I even spent $80 on them. By buying those 5 dvds I did complete my membership contract. I also got great deals on 5 dvds. I paid less for them through the Colombia House than I would have if I would have bought them at Suncoast or Wal-Mart or some other place that sells movies.

I don't understand how they can be a rip-off when like I said I spent less on 5 movies through them than I would have going to a store and buying them.
