I moved into my apartment less than a year ago Oct. 2014, the apartment owner supplied free cable which is in my lease.  I plugged in the cable and it would not work so I called the landlord he said to call Comcast they advised me that they changed to digital in my area and I would have to get their free receiver box Nov 2014, so they asked  information such as phone number, address, name the usual so they could send me a box.

I then received a letter from my landlord stating as of June 1, 2015 he was no longer providing Comcast service, period and that was all. On, July 6, 2015 I receive a bill from Comcast for $127.00 stating that my account was past due from May 2015.

I called Comcast and did I get a shock, they have an account set up in my name without my permission saying I now owe $171.00 they claim they mailed a letter stating that they automatically put this service in my name because the landlord stop paying for it and they say they sent a letter to me describing this BOGUS transaction. I never received anything but a bill. I asked if this was a certified letter? Did they call me to discus this matter? to both questions NO.....

I told them they should have shut the service off if the account holder stop paying for it and they had no right to slip that over in my name without my permission. The associates argued with me and no one was compliant. I spoke with 7 different associates trying to resolve this matter all trying to convince me that this fradulant action was okay and their policy. One associate said they used the information from the FREE cable box to set this BOGUS account up and I should report identity theft to Comcast.net, I tried to do this and their is no where to do this on the website.

I am livid!!!!!! this is a ridiculous scam for a company this large. The land lord expressed he had issues with this company Comcast and that is the reason he will no longer use them. He said to ask for Tonjia F. with the Charter Bulk rate department and also tell the associates to speak with her as she handles this account... I was told they do not have a bulk rate department any longer by one associate and I was told by another that this Tonija F. would not talk to anyone she only deals in email and they refused to give me her email or take mine they insisted I pay this bill.....

What can I do about this? Does anyone have a solution? This will affect my credit report... How can a company be allowed to practice these fradulant actions and get away with it? Is there any rights for victims of this nature?

What did you do

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 24, 2015

Your actions in this may be as important if not more important than anything else.

You say you got a letter that stated on June 1st the landlord was no longer providing cable.  So come June 1st what did you do?  Did you stop watching it or did you continue figuring "hey...I still get it".  If that was the case did it occur to you to follow up with the cable company or even your landlord to find out why?

Then what did you do with the box?  Did you call them back up and ask if you should send it back?

If you continued to watch it and failed to follow-up  you could be seen as responsible for this as Comcast.  As for them transfering service to you.  Again you would have to read anything  you signed with the landlord or them to see if they can or can't do that.

Now a bigger issue may be actually with  your landlord.

Did you sign a year lease?  If so did the lease state it included cable?  If so your landlord may still be obligated to pay for the cable through the end of your lease even though he is still no longer with Comcast.  So you should read through your lease to see if your landlord can just stop providing cable.
