Comerica Bank Cancellation of debit card without prior notification. Nationwide
*Consumer Comment: Not a RipOff...
*Consumer Comment: Seriously??
Comerica decided to cancel my debit card because, according to them, it had been compromised. No notification was given to me. The card was cancelled before I received a new card. Supposedly they mailed a new card to me ten days ago, but I do not have it. Because they did not notify me first, I was left without a card and without cash on a weekend. They told me they are too big to send email or phone. Plus, they could care less how inconvenienced I am! I will take my business some place where I can get decent customer service no matter how big the bank is.

Not a RipOff...

Let me help you out here by taking a step back...
First of all they didn't out of the blue one day figure they had nothing else better to do than to cause you trouble and cancel your card. Your card was compromised...meaning that somehow..someway..someone was attempting to use YOUR account number to purchase something.
Now, am I going to say that this isn't inconvienient..of course not. But this is a lot better than the alternative and them not doing anything where instead of you having no access to your account for a few days...you have no money in your account because it was taken.
But as for access. I did a quick look and there are several branches around Dallas(where you showed you are) are open on Saturday. Where you could go in with your ID and witdraw any cash you need for a few days.
As for the card they say they sent and you never got. Again...they have no reason to not send you a card. There isn't some guy in some back room who picked your name out of the hat and say let's not actually send them a card. But since you claim you never got it..this is even more of a reason to cancel the card. As if you don't have it...someone else may. Again this is protecting YOU against fraud.
Could they have done more to notifiy you. I'll leave that up to you to decide. This is really just to point out that while you may not see it, it does appear they are trying to keep you from having to deal with bigger issues in fighting to get your money back once someone takes it from your account.
Also, while it won't help you now. This is a primary reason I do not have all of my money in a single account. This way if I have issues with one, I have a secodary account to use for a few days. You also have things such as Credit Cards and even Checks you could use.

Be grateful that they did contact you - banks do not have stacks of debit cards to send out. I know from experience that the card has to be order first. Get over it - the next bank will do the exact same thing.
