Compass Bank auto loan Birmingham Alabama

My husband was killed in a terrible construction site accident. I notified Compass bank with in one week after his death because I wasnt sure if there was a life insurance policy on the loan. Compass Bank informed me that since my name was not on the loan I was not able to talk to them concerning the loan. They then requested a copy of the death certificate for thier records, making me think it was so that I could talk to them. Five weeks after his death a tow truck showed up at my house at ten thirty on a Saturday night to repo my vehical. When I asked why he was repo-ing he said my name was not on the contract and that he couldnt give me any information. I was not behind on any payments and when my lawyer spoke to Jennifer Vance at Compass Bank, she was completely uncompassionate and said that it was in the fine print on the original contract. When my lawyer asked what I could do to get my vehical back she told him I could refinance or pay it off in whole. When he asked what the remaining balance was Compass Bank had added two thousand dollars onto the payoff. When my lawyer gave me this information I took him all of my paperwork and he did the math and called Jennifer Vance back requesting an explaination as to why the payoff had increased. She still will not return calls and will not answer her extention two weeks later. I did recieve a certified letter this last week informing me that they will be selling my vehical on the first and if it does not sell for the total amount due then I (who is not on the contract and cannot get information on the loan) will be responible for the rest of the amount due. So if you are looking into financing a vehical thru Compass Bank DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are heartless and crooked. I hope no one ever goes through what I have gone through but this is just a little foresight as to how they will treat you. This vehical was a birthday present from my husband four years ago and thats the only reason I was not on the loan papers.
