My husband and I paid seperate internet charges and decided that we should only have one internet provider. My husband did not like CompuServe so I cancelled my account in 2003. They gave me 3 months of free service to think about it. In January, 2004 I called to terminate the service. It was a very frustrating experience as the waiting period to talk to a representative was very long and when I did get a representative they did not speak good english. I was also disconnected many times.

Just this week, April 15, 2004 I happen to look at my bank statement to find that I am still being charged for Compuserve internet services. I don't even have Compuserve on my computer so I called. After finally, reaching a representative who did not speak good english I was told that I was still and active member. How could this be? I asked? The representative told me that there records show that I called back a couple of days later to reactivate my closed account. I insisted that I did not do any such thing and there records should reflect no activity on that account since Dec, 2003 which the representative agreed. She laughed at me and insisted that I called back to reactivate the account and if I didn't use their services that was my problem. She also refused to refund my money despite my claim. They also told me that they would make sure that my account is closed now.

I hung up and called back later to talk to someone different. I explaied my story to someone differnt for the 3rd time only to be told that my problem would be taken care of and would transfer me to the billing dept. I was disconnected 3 times. Finally, reaching the billing dept. they also insisted that I called back to reactive the account. I disagreed and demanded that they look at my records indicating that I terminated the account. It was useless. The fact that I had a termination number and representative's name ... it didn't mean anything because they now claim that I called back to reactivate the account. This is so unfair.

I demanded the owner's name and address or phone number and that information was refused. I was told that they did not know that information.

I was very upset as I closed the account only to find out months later that they were still charging my account. I feel very cheated and abused.
