IN 2005 I took the "online skills challenge" on the website for computertraining.com. Of course, I passed. Many people can pass the challenge, since they are computer basics.
I enrolled in the school in July 2005. About a month or so in, I realized it wasn't for me. I wasn't grasping much of anything. We moved along at an expeditious rate of speed, and I didn't even get my first test taken until October. I had talked to the instructer, and he pursuaded me to stay, saying that he thought I could do this.
I do have to mention, that at the time, the articles on the the radio stated "become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer in as little as 6 months". Well, needless to say, I don't think anyone in my class has even gotten as far as becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems ADMINISTRATOR (which requires 4 tests). It is very difficult, and in actuality, most of us only passed the 1-3 tests that we HAVE taken, simply because of a few websites that give you the actual questions and answer that are on the test. Otherwise I'm not sure if anyone in my class of 20 would even have gotten as far as we did.
The online skills challenge had absolutely nothing to do with the information that was crammed into our heads. One of the poor guys in my class fixed windows for a living and he knew computer basics. He took the course and struggled through it. He was so lost it was pitiful. He will never use what he learned. No one wanted to hear us say that we wanted to quit, or that it wasn't for us. We also didn't have much of an option once we signed up. There really wasn't much backing out, because the majority of the debt would still be there.
Just the other day (August 2007) I noticed that now they don't say "become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer in as little as 6 months". Now it's "become a microsoft certified profressional". Go figure. Because that's probably all they can guarantee you and it's the easiest test to take.
Not only that - the money that they tell you you'll make? Yeah right. In my current position, I would have to take a pay cut to go into the computer networking field. How am I supposed take a pay cut and continue paying the obscene schooling cost of over $300 a month?
They are liars and cheaters. It is a scam, and nothing will become of it. Yeah, I saw the pictures of all the successful graduates. Anyone can pose for a picture. Doesn't mean they actually graduated from there - or said any of those things.
I would NEVER recommend computertraining.com to ANYONE. You will get nowhere. If you can turn a computer on and shut it down, you're qualified for they're class. If you can't keep up? Well, sorry for your luck, but thanks for your $25,000. Next!
Someone needs to file a class action lawsuit. I want my money back!!!!! It is now 2007. I still haven't obtained my MCSA, I've been studying for the last test for that certification for over a year, now. I'm in debt to my eyeballs because of this stupid school, and once you graduate - you have NOTHING. No tutoring, no assistance, no nothing.
PLUS - the Mechanicsburg, PA school I went to shut down. How convenient. They are no more. So what does that tell you??

Maybe you were the problem?

I do not think it is fair for you to lump all your issues into it being the companies fault.
I went to computertraining.com in 1999/2000. I was going through a divorce and needed a career. I too had heard the commercials and went up to the school to tour it and give it a try.
I had just bought my first computer and had was just learning my way around Windows 98 although I had taken courses in Medical and Legal Computerized reporting and had an idea about how computers worked. I certainly was not an experienced computer person.
I sat through one of Tony's TCP/IP classes and at the end he was asking questions about subnetting and also about hexadecimals and he asked me if I wanted to try a problem on the board. I did try and I found the answer relatively quickly having only been in the class for one hour. I decided that I could do this.
I was the ONLY person in the class that was a stay home mom with no outside experience. My "partner" (the person sitting next to me quit) and I was left to be on my own doing both the server and workstation parts of the labs. I was THRILLED this happened as it gave me twice the practice.
We all passed our first 2 tests necessary to be MCP (that is all of us that took the test we had a slacker that had excuse after excuse not to take a test--he did eventually quit). And the third test was Enterprise and I was the ONLY one in the class to pass it on the first try. My instructor Tony didn't even ask me pass/fail as he went through the room because he figured if noone else passed it I probably hadn't. The entire class was thrilled that I had passed the test and it allowed me to bond with them and they looked to my suggestions more during labs than they had previously.
You are always encouraged to take your tests immediately. They did have "test banks" out on the internet but why use them? You are only hurting yourself! Perhaps if you have done all the work, built a server and workstation in your home out of parts and practiced you would have done better.
Also, you most likely got into it for Windows 2000 MCSE? You were probably in way over your head at that point because that was a build on the NT architecture and without that background you were probably lost.
I cannot say enough good about the Instructors, the school and my class.
And the reason they would have changed from 6 months in their advertisements is because the new MCSE's involved more classes because they added in Computer Architecture classes and it would make sense that the class would take longer.
Bottom line.........Just because it didn't work for you..... Doesn't mean you should bash it for the rest of us that it did work for. Even though I am a little late finding your RipOff Report I feel that it needs addressed.
Out of the 20 in our class, 2 dropped out and 2 were not interested in getting the actual MCSE and did not test out completely (their jobs at Verizon paid for them to go to brush up skills), the other 16 of us all tested out and completed the course.
