I am a single parent who was having financial difficulties. I informed Conn's of this so that we may work something out. They were very rude and stated that "you bought it, you have to pay it now. That's the contract". After many altercations, threatening phone calls at home, work, my cell phone, I told them I was filing for bankruptcy. They continued to harrass, call names, call my place of employment. They not only call several times, they call, hang up and call right back several times in a row. I don't understand how companies treat consumers this way. I will never do business with these people, nor will I ever refer anyone to them. They are cruel, harrassing, and threatening. Most of all, unprofessional. Please let all reading know.
Thank you

Ok, I've had my fun - now some real advice

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 20, 2005

Here's what Lynn should do.

Next time Conn Appliance calls demanding payment tell them that they are not to contact you by telephone at home or at work. They are not to contact any of your friends or relatives concerning your debt. They are only to contact you by mail. Also tell them that from this point onward you will be recording date, times and any threats made in any future calls and will report them if necessary. If you have an answering machine with a memo feature press the memo button at the start of this call and them tell that they are being recorded. Do not cry or fall apart or offer any excuses why they have not been paid. They have heard it all before and couldn't care less. You have to sound forceful and confident. After having stated the above hangup the phone. Keep a pad of paper nearby to record any future calls from Conn Appliance making sure to note the time called, the length of the call and any threats made. Do the same at work and have your friends and family do the same. If the calls continue, gather up the logs of calls and report them.

Next follow this up with a letter. State the exact same thing you told them over the phone.
Also include a schedule of payments you will make to them to repay your debt. Include the amount and the day of each month they will receive the payment. Tell thrm to sign it and mail it back to you. Include a certified bank check for the first payment. Be sure that what ever schedule you devise is one that you can comfortable keep. If you miss even one payment as promised you will make matters worse. Make sure there are no tear stains on the paper and have someone check the spelling. Some people are anal about that. Send it off the Conn Appliance registered mail return receipt requested to be sure they have received it.

Create a budget and cut corners where needed. You'd be surprised at what you waste money on that you haven't realized until you have written it down.

Don't be surprised if you receive a notice in the mail stating what you owe and it is more than you originally thought. There are fees and finance charges that will probably be applied to your account.

Conn Appliance may still think of you as a thief but you will at least be making a good faith effort to payoff you debt and set a better example for your children.

Alone? Nobody could put up with your totally mean spirit

AUTHOR: Wally - (Australia)

POSTED: Saturday, March 19, 2005

You no doubt sleep very well ALONE in that paid for bed. Nobody could put up with your totally mean spirit enough to want to share your bed. You probably have a meter on the spare side in case you get lucky and someone will pay to sleep there.

On a serious note Robert if you found a house you wanted to buy but didn't have the money to pay cash for it would you borrow the money? I bet you would and so you put yourself in financial harm's way if somethin goes wrong in your life - the same as Lynne did - only yours would be on a much larger scale.

Lynne did not buy the bed on time payment with the intention of not paying it back - she has shown strong moral fibre in attempting to negotiate with these goons whose response was to spit the dummy. She tried - they didn't - they don't deserve payment. Every dollar you put up in business is risk capital - you can't win on every deal - que sera sera!
Kind regards,

Was it really her fault?

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 17, 2005

The original author doesn't say how she got into financial trouble and there is nothing to show the she knowingly purchased merchandise that she couldn't afford. It is easy for financial circumstances to change after making a major purchase. She was up front with the creditor and was treated rudely.

I recently had a client that was a well paid attorney who was devastated by a divorce. He ended up with nearly $300,000 in tax debt and also some huge medical bills. Life happens.

WOW - What a prince among men you are Robert

AUTHOR: Wally - (Australia)

POSTED: Thursday, March 17, 2005

Well done Robert - you tell them mate!!! It is extremely hard to guess what profession you may be a part of! I hope you earn enough this year to be able to afford the personality transplant you so desperately need in order to join the human race. By the way 'eccentials'should be spelt 'essentials' but because you are such a lovely man who enjoys berating the fairer sex I guess you can spell everything pretty much how you like. Keep up the great work Robert I have never been able to bring myself to be anything but polite and courteous to other people, particularly Ladies but you must sleep really well knowing that you can be so nasty.
Lynne, keep that smile on your face, as long as you have your health material things don't count. Things have a way of working out and those goons that have been harassing you don't deserve to collect a cent. The Roberts of this world don't deserve the air they breathe. One thing you can be sure of though is that civility costs nothing - you have it - Robert wouldn't know what it meant. Enjoy your life and hold your head up high, you are simply a Lady who is going through hard times - nothing more nothing less. Life does get better.
Kind Regards

Pay them single mothers survived and kept track of their kids prior to cell phones.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 17, 2005

If you couldn't afford it you shouldn't have bought it.

Get rid of the non eccentials. Dump the cell phone. Believe it or not, single mothers survived and kept track of their kids prior to cell phones.

I doubt that this company will shed any tears if you do not do business with them. They will not have to worry about you, your deadbeat friends or deadbeat relatives stiffing them again.

Take responsibility for your own actions and stop playing the victim.
