Only recently did I finally question the strange charges on my account, the 11.95 monthly fee from MNI*Creditrpt services. Working at a bank I had a customer come in who had received these charges on her card and her account, two fees, this time 8.95 (no consistency). These two fees which she never authorized overdrew her account. For myself the fees have added up to almost $100.

Unfortunately I was a naive young adult who only assumed that these charges were something that must be incurred with having a credit card. After seeing someone else who experienced this, I immediately called the company and questioned why this was happening. As with many others they told me that I 'registered' for their service when I acquired my 'FREE' credit report. Of course I was outraged, I acquire a free service and you charge me for it. They tell me that if I didn't want to be billed I should have canceled the service during their 30 day trial period. Hard to cancel a service I didn't know I subscribed to. They ask me if I want to cancel, I say of course, immediately. I then ask for a refund of every charge that I never even authorized. Surprise Surprise, they have a no refund policy. I demand to be transferred to a supervisor and I'm given to a recording telling me that they're closed for the day. Strange considering I just spoke to someone 30 seconds ago. I call back, same thing happens, call back a third time, I speak with a customer service rep who asks what my complaint is, I explain, and say we have two options here. 1. You refund all of my money, 2. I contact my attorney, as well as send a letter to the attorney general and enlighten them as to how you do business. I was told I might as well write the letter as they have a no refund policy. Happy to oblige, I wrote the letter.

Steps I've taken so far:
Contacted the company, received a cancellation number.
Wrote a letter to the Maryland Attorney General's Office
Submitted a letter to CNN requesting that they publish the story Submitted a letter to FOX News requesting that they publish the story Contacted my credit card company

I encourage everyone who's experienced this to contact the BBB, contact the attorney general, contact your news services, make this situation known and bring the company to justice. If anyone out there has the resources to start a class action lawsuit, by all means, I'll definitely join. Something needs to be done, I'm tired of just rolling over the accepted the fact that the world is corrupt. If you want something fixed, fix it.

Since I know the popular argument will be 'Well it's written write there on the side, you should have read it.' To clarify, this happened in November 2007, and this disclaimer they have there now, is a recent addition, probably in response to a threat of legal action from others they've received throughout the years. Again, no one may believe that, but this is about more than what's right and wrong under the technical letter of the law. If a thief or murderer goes free because of some legal escape their attorney comes up with well hey, that's the law, legally they can go free. But the question is, is it RIGHT. There's much more than just black and white these days, there's a whole world of gray areas.
