I attended classes at DeVry Online and was told by an advisor that my classes would be covered by my Pell Grant and two Stafford loans, which was true for two of my classes. I even got a $200 refund check after my aid disbursed. The classes were ok...not what I'd expect for the money being paid, but they weren't terrible.

Anyway, the next session rolled around and I was registered for two math classes. The classes consisted of filling out forms and nothing more, so I figured there's no way they would cost any more than the classes I already took...Imagine my surprise when the bill came in the mail saying I owed over $700 out of pocket. My options were to either find a private loan or drop classes. Having no credit, a private loan was out of the question and I couldn't just take one class because then I wouldn't be eligible for financial aid, so I had no choice but to drop both.

I don't understand why the costs of classes and materials went up when there was less substance to the higher-cost ones.

One positive thing I would like to point out is the person I talked to on the phone was very helpful and efficient in dropping me from the classes.

I now owe over $5000 in loans for a grand total of two classes and will have them paid off by 2015.

DeVry charges by credit hour, so it doesn't really matter how much work you did in the class.
