I bought two packages of items from China, each from a different source. Each one was ~ $75.00 (CDN). I paid both companies in China for my packages and for the shipping costs via DHL. The suppliers both sent their packages. These purchases were sent about 1 week apart.
About 3 weeks later, I rec'd a yellow form in the mailbox. It was DHL's invoice for Duty and Taxes, for package #1. I paid that by Paypal, but it took a few days because I had to get some money into my account. I also went onto DHL's web page and asked them to leave the package at the front door if no one was home.
About 5 days after that, I got another yellow invoice from DHL, for duty and taxes (on package #2). I paid that by Paypal. This time I had money in my account and paid it as soon as I knew how much it was.
Then, the next day, I got a phone call from DHL asking what my address was (I originally asked them to ship both packages to my mother in law's address - I had moved in the process, but either address would have worked). I gave the DHL person my new/alternate address.
He phoned back about 5 minutes later and asked again about my package. I told him I was actually waiting for two packages. I gave him both waybill numbers. It sounded to me like he was surprised that I also had another package coming.
About 2 days later, I had a knock at the door, and it was package #2. So, far so good.
The next day after that, I got an email saying DHL was sorry, but they returned my package (#1) to China.
I replied to the email and asked for my duty and taxes back. I got that back, but they said they couldn't do anything about the package. I went onto their website and sent a message to their CEO in Canada. The next day, I got a message back from some other person at DHL, saying they wouldn't or couldn't do anything about my package #1.
So, I'm out the original cost of the package ($75 CDN), and I don't know what happened to it. For all I know, someone here has it. I'm upset because I paid DHL for a service, and I didn't get what I paid for. I feel like they somehow got confused and decided to get even for it.
I paid for this with my Mastercard, which is linked to my Paypal account. I haven't approached Mastercard for a refund yet.
