I was contacted by a Robert Wee from Digital Monopoly in November 2015. He was offering SEO services with a startup package of $660. I had just finished wading my way through the many SEO scammers from India and decided to give a local company a go. I was promised great things from Robert for my monthly $660. After he sealed the deal, i was contacted by another operator who advised me that he was my business rep. From day one this business rep repeatadly told me how there was very little he could do as my budget was so small. Obviosly at this point alarm bells were ringing, however i had a written agreement with Digital monopoly and as far as i was concerned if they did not meet this agreement then i would demand a refund. A week in and i had another reason to be worried, they changed all of the keywords and tacked the words joondalup onto the end of them. Obviously they changed this on my site as well. My rep was quite proud to announce that within two days many of my keywords were now on page 1 of google. Of course the word joondalup was the reason for this. I was quick to point out that this meant that these words were obviously not competative searches at all. I was reassurred that they were working on the main keywords in the back ground. After four weeks i received my monthly report that of course showed my keywords with joondalup tacked onto each one. I immediately emailed them asking why my keywords were not on the report. The next thing i did was check my placings on google and to my dismay all but one keyword had gone backwards. One of my most important searches had plummeted 50 places. I then cancelled my services with them effective immediately. Shortly afterwards i received a call from Robert Wee. He stated that this was normal. I then repeated to him all the promises he had made to get my business. His response, he laughed and said, did you get that in writing. Of course at this point i realised what i was dealing with and hung up the phone. 5 minutes later i received an email from Robert Wee advising me that he will not be sworn at and threatened by myself. As you can imagine, i did neither. Several emails followed all clearly with the intention to be used in court. He continued to email me even though i asked him to stop. I had told him not to contact me and that i was going to let consumer affairs deal with it and no doubt ultimately the small claims tribunal to get my $660 back. Robert did advise me during our phone conversation that dozens of customers had attempted to sue him but they had all been laughed out of court, because they simply blame google. I see that there are other folks on here that have also been burnt by this company and this may interest you. In the last few days i have seeked legal advice pertaining to loss of income which will potentially span over months. It appears that we have a case. I would be interested in joining you in a class action law suit, if we can? I am devastated that i didnt take the time to look up digital monopoly reviews prior to using their services. There is an interesting conversation on whirlpool where the general manager has a bit to say to an upset prospective customer. If only i had seen this, i wouldnt have gone near them. Do your research, the $660 is nothing compared to what they have done to my google rankings and ultimately my business.

Failed to address complaint

Dear Robert
I would like to respond to your sterile reply which did not address any of my complaints at all. You and I have exchanged many emails and we have established that I never expected any miraculous page one results on google after one month with your company. I have had a website in one of the most competative industries in Australia since 2007 and am well aware of how long it takes to get such a site to page one on Google. The biggest concern that I want addressed is why did all but one of the keywords go backwards in placings including one that lost over 50 placings? I am more than happy to post all of our emails which of course display the date and time, this will clearly display what my greviences are and show that you have not addressed any of them in your Rebuttal on the Rip off report website. Just give me your approval to do so. It is also important to note, with regards to the local searches that you spoke of in your Rebuttal; These searches did not take a month to appear on the top of page one on Google, they took two days. Any business owner knows that a keyword that appears at the top of page one on Google after two days is all but useless. (especially in the security industry) Anyone can go onto their own Wordpress site and using Yoast change a few keywords. Why would I pay someone $660 to provide this service? Whilst you are replying to this online complaint I would also like you to address our verbal conversation. The conversation where I questioned all of the promises you had made to me and you laughed and said "did you get that in writing" Lastly, I would never slur a good name. I think everyone who has dealt with you is aware of the qualities of your name. Everything I have written in this complaint is factual and appart from the he said/she said verbal conversation we had, I can and will prove everything in the coming months at the small claims tribunal.

Hi All,
Robert here. To give you a more accurate account of our brief 1 month relationship with Callan here's what happened.
Callan was in a similar case as a lot of Australian business where he had worked with a number of companies outside of Australia and felt he had been burnt by companies who took his money without getting him results. For this reason I was happy to work on a month by month basis to show how we work, if he wasnt happy with our service he could leave at any time.
I have been in the SEO industry for almost 5 years and am very clear with new clients that SEO is not guarantee'd and they should not expect a huge increase in rankings for competitive terms for at least 3 - 6 months depending on the current website.
I thought Callan understood this... We ran an initial ranking report, with most of his keywords being back on page 6+ of Google.com.au. We agreed to begin optimising his website for his main suburb (Joondalup), for short term results and Perth related terms long term. For the first month we completed and audit on the website, and optimised all relevant pages to Callans chosen keywords.
After the first month alot of his terms for Joondalup moved onto the 1st and 2nd pages, along with forward movement for a majority of Perth related terms. I have the ranking report to prove this.
We then recieved an email from Callan, bearing in mind this is after 1 months SEO work ($600) stating that he was devastaed that more generic keywords such as Cctv camera suppliers, Cctv camera systems, Cctv systems were not showing forward movement.
Callan chose a few handpicked terms which had not shown forward movement, they have infact moved back a place or two, albeit hugely generic terms, and decided he wanted his initial 1st months investment refunded.
Callan's chosen to hear what he wants from our breif conversation recently to which I stated I have worked for a number of SEO companies and had experienced a number of cases where clients have had unrealistic expectations with Organic SEO work.
We never guarantee results, especially after such a short space of time.
Callan, its a shame you've had to drag my name through the dirt, I think its pretty unreasonable considering all of the work myself and the team have done for you.
If anyone would like to talk to me directly regarding this case, or about our service my direct line is 08 6260 4718, my email is [email protected] //
Thank you.
