Went into my paypal account and took out $620.00 without my authorization, did not show on card for two months. Contacted PAYPAL , was told to contact Digitalriver,, did not get any response from them. While checking out this situation it was brought to my attention that other people were getting ripped off from this Company . When I contacted PayPal was not informed that other people had the same thing happen to them through PayPal. I thought PayPal was a secure site,,now I feel I cannot trust or use PayPal in the furture until this problem is resolved and I am reimbursed for the $620.00.

DIGITAL RIVER IS A RIP-OFF!!!

AUTHOR: Teri and frank - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 15, 2009

What looks too good to be true always is.  I purchased their download of Microsoft Word 2007 in Nov., 2008 for $59.99 and have yet to see my Backup Disk.  So I am stuck emailing the company, since they have no phone number.  It ends up that it's almost a year and Digital River keeps telling me to go to certain links, which do this:  Make customer have to REpay for Microsoft Word 2007 download, in order to get the $13.00 backup disk.  At that point, I deleted the $59.99 off my Shopping Cart and kept the $13.00 listed on there and guess what happens:  THE WHOLE THING DELETES.  I tried getting new passwords and same thing happens:  Digital River keeps spitting back same messages, even though I emailed them a thousand of more times claiming the same problems I am having with their Website.
Here I am with the download, but can't get the $13.00 disk.  I tried paying them via check and mailed it to them, only to find they mailed it back to me.  I sent payment to their MN Office, as I also noticed they have many international addresses.  You don't know WHO you are fooling with on other end of Internet when you contact Digital River.  They are a SCAM for sure and although they advertise $59.99 download for college students, you will never be able to hear from them except answers spitted back to you via computer.  When my computer does crash some day, I am stuck with no backup disk and either have to purchase a new Microsoft Word download OR here's another option I am going to do:

       www.openoffice.org

The good part is I downloaded OpenOffice on my laptap computer and it works fine with Microsoft Word.  The only drawback is let's say you use the computer at your college or library, after bringing your USF Flash (documents, etc. that can be saved onto the small gadget) to plug into computer:  You will not be able to transfer the data onto the next computer, unless it has OpenOffice stored on it.  In other words, for each computer that does not have OpenOffice downloaded, then the assignments you saved on USF Flash Drive will not open up for your benefit (working on the assignment while at school, etc.).  Other than that, I successfully receive my assignments posted on Blackboard by my instructors, as OpenOffice opens up regardless.  It's when documents are saved on USF Flash Drive that one cannot open them up on another computer, if that same computer does not have OpenOffice downloaded on it.
Another way to make sure everything turns out is to keep a copy of an older version of Microsoft Word (if you have one) and use that to write essays for college and then save that onto USF Flash Drive.  I have an older version at home, but needed Microsoft Word 2007 to be able to open up Powerpoint and other data sent to me via my instructors.  Older Microsoft versions do not have Powerpoint, Excel, etc. all in one package.  OpenOffice successfully opens up Powerpoint, Excel, etc. sent to me by others, including my instructors.
If I ever must buy another download, it sure won't be from Digital River!  Stay away from this company, as it needs to be forever shut down!  The FBI should be helping to prosecute them for stealing money from people as claimed by other consumers here on Rip-Off Report.  Beware of any company that has no customer service phone number and insists on you only talking to a machine, rather than a live person on other end of the phone!
