Direct Energy Unscrupulous Sales Tactics Nationwide

 I live in Toledo, Ohio and have Toledo Edison as my electric supplier. These Direct Energy clowns have been periodically knocking on my door for several years. Each and every time that they do, I immediately tell them I am not interested in switching my natural gas or electric supplier to them.

Yesterday, a black guy knocked on my door about 6:20 PM. I could see he was with Direct Energy because of his hat. His nametag was obscured because he had it clipped onto his shirt lapel and that caused it to be partially tucked under his shirt. I told him right away that I was not interested.

This is when it gets good. He then proceeded to tell me that there were "errors" on my bill and that he was required to see my bill. I told him to go to h#ll. He went on about errors being on Toledo Edison customer's bills and that he was authorized to view customer's bills to check for these errors. I told him I wasn't one who was going to fall for his and his company's sh#t tactics and he had better get the f#ck out of here right now. He left.

I wrote down all of the information about the solicitation (time, what was said, etc) and filed a report with the PUCO (Public Utilities Commision of Ohio) and Toledo Edison. According to them this was not the first complaint filed against Direct Energy.

A few months ago, I was speaking with a neighbor across the street. She was telling me that she signed up with Direct Energy and her electric rates more than doubled from what she was paying with Toledo Edison. She showed me her bill. Sure enough, her rate with Direct Energy as her supplier was over $0.13 Kw/hr. I pay just over $0.05 Kw/hr. She said she got locked into that rate and couldn't cancel without having to pay a penalty for early cancellation.

I cannot understand how a despicable company like this is allowed to continue to operate. They have their sales associates outright lie in order to try and gain your business (telling me that they are authorized to see my bill). The ONLY thing they want off your bill is YOUR account number so they can SLAM you and become your energy supplier. I feel sorry for the old folks and not-so-smart folks who fall for this tactic.

YOU DO NOT EVER HAVE TO SHOW SOMEONE YOUR BILL! PERIOD! Don't fall for this crap! Obviously, these associates are trained by someone to use these tactics. These people need a swift kick in their behinds if they come anywhere near your front door.
