Until recently, I believed that the "delivery" charge attached to my pizza order, went to the delivery driver, where else would it go.  I found out very recently, and I would assume this is the case with all pizza places which charge a delivery charge but, Domino's definitely charges $2.49 for this BUT, technically, NONE of this delivery charge technically goes to the driver.  The company pays the driver $0.90 per delivery BUT, this is basically so the company as a whole can write off the cost of the driver's mileage on the company taxes.

Why is this a problem you might ask?  The company only pays it's driver $5.00 per hour while out on delivery because it is considered a tipped position but, as a catch-22 for the driver, if the customers don't tip because they BELIEVE the delivery charge goes to the delivery driver, this employee doesn't even make minimum wage.  Think about it!  Could you live or support your family if you were only making $5.00 a hour?  Before you say, if they don't like this, get a college education, most of these employees are people who are working their way through this same college education or kids that may not even be out of high school yet.  Regardless, you don't want to have to go pick your pizza up so, you order for delivery and this is how this delivery driver is treated by all these companies.

Fact is, yes, it would be nice to tip your pizza delivery driver but, it would also be just as nice for these pizza companies to stop charging delivery charges and putting this extra money in their OWN pockets, especially when they are the ones making millions by pulling the wool over the customer's eyes and screwing over their employees at the same time.

Point is, just because a company tacks on an extra charge, right or wrong, it doesn't mean the EMPLOYEES of the company are getting much, if any, of this money.  Times have not changed.  If you used to tip, keep tipping.  If you are one of those who doesn't and has never tipped, you are just plain wrong.  These individuals are bringing you food because, for one reason or another, you don't want to leave your house.  Think of what you should do based on how YOU would want things to go if YOU were the one working in this position.  Frankly, you would think it would come down to common kindness but, apparently not so, look out for other how YOU would want to be looked out for.
