Ok first of all I hate to say that I too have a story about DriveTime. I purchased a 1999 Chevy Malibu from them and it was a problem from day one (literally). I test drove the car and it was fine, when I went to pick it up later to take home, as soon as I cranked it up, put it in drive, it stopped on me on the LOT !!!

I went in to tell them the problem and expressed to them that I don't want the car anymore they said "we assure you that you are getting a great car and we will get this fixed for you. Our Re-Con Center put a lot of $$ into this car and we will get it fixed for you."

I agreed and the second day I got it back the fuel pump came loose on my way home from work. I called them, they towed it to the Re-Con place again and brought it to me the next day. It drove ok for two weeks and it did it again. At this point I was pissed and took the car to drivetime and demanded that they release me from the contract I had just signed two weeks prior and refund me my $$, all they were worried about was payment.

So I finally got in touch with the District Manager (he was a joke also)who explained to me that they will take the car to Chevy to be repaired, which they did. The mechanic at Chevy told me and them "The computer in this car is causing a lot of electrical and mechanical issues and needs to be repaired asap or the car will keep having the same issues", the rep from Drive time said " We will send it to recon and have it repaired for you."

A lil satisfied, he called me and said that they will bring the car back to me once this was done. I agreed again like a dummy. 2 months later the car stopped on me again and guess what, the computer finally went out. $4000 to repair so they came and picked the car up stating that they will do a loss payoff and put me in a newer car. They came and picked up the car from me and had the nerve to tell me that I will be responsible for the $$ to repair the the vehicle.

Bull- Crap, this was an issue from Day one and all eight times it has been to the shop in 7 months is documented. I will tell anyone who is thinking aobut getting a car from DRIVE CRIME please don't. Save yourself the agony and $$$, I put over $2500 in that car to get it right and it still wasn't right. It was a lemon from the start and come to find out it was a rebuilt wreck, which is what a lot of their cars are.

AUTHOR: Judy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 09, 2004

I was having problems with DriveTime regarding their collection practices. They would call me two days before my payment was due and every day thereafter until they received my payment (my payments were mailed by check, so it took a few days to get them) and they would call my parents in Texas only to ask them if they knew where I was. My payments were coming out of California and they knew exactly where I was located. They also called my work and left messages there after I called them and told them I wasn't allowed calls there. These were just bullying tactics that my parents didn't appreciate, nor did I. I took matters into my own hands and wrote to DriveTime telling them I wanted no further correspondence with them over the phone, only in writing. They are slow to learn, so I wrote a letter to the Attorney General's office in my state filing a complaint against their company-I copied DriveTime on it. I provided the AG with all the information I had on my situation-the Fair Credit Act, a log I kept of the times I was called and I even had recordings of the messages left. I received a response from the Attorney General's office saying they would look into the claim and sure enough, I stopped receiving harassing phone calls, and I received a copy of their response to the AG's office explaining their "incompetence".

I would suggest you look into the "lemon laws" in your state, make a copy of all information you have regarding your vehicle and file a complaint with the AG's office in your state. The AG's office is required to look into any claims submitted to their office. If enough people file ligitimate complaints against this company, something will be done.

I wish you luck.
