This was an Interstate move and when the movers got to Iowa City the foreman insisted that the move was based on cubic feet because he states that the items would occupy more space on the truck than initially quoted.
A $272.50 deposit was already paid to E-Z Movers and it was too late to find a new company. The foreman assesses new charges after loading the truck. Contacted the E-Z Movers Agent Tony Romero, who said don't agrue the charges stating "it is what it is."
After the movers left contacted the FMCSA and found out about the information that E-Z Movers failed to inform. E-Z Movers failed to give to provide "Your Rights & Responsibilities When You Move" FMCSA manual at any time. Federal Law states that all Interstate moves must be based on actual WEIGHT of shippment and not VOLUME. The mover has the right to dispute the charges and have the shippment re-weighed.
On delivery day the company refused to give give up items with payment of 100% plus 10% of the initial non-binding aggrement (note: no additional services were ever requested). E-Z movers stated that the payment was required in full after disputing with a supervisor paid $1560 total which was $110% of $1415.50
Insistance on having E-Z Movers provide proof of Weight-Tickets on the day of delivery proved futile. The Foreman/Driver refused to produce any Weight Tickets. A re-weigh was also impossible since the truck contained items from a number of customers.
Everything written here can be backed up with photos and videos taken on the day of pickup and on the day of delivery.

Fumi, part of their contrract (and the law) stipulate that a shipper must pay 110% of the amount due upon delivery (hence the 100% plus 10%), and the moving company then must bill you anything additional that they can legitimately bill you for within 30 days. If the amount paid at delivery is more than what should have been due, then the mover must refund the balance within the same 30 days.
One of the things that would concern me from the beginning was that you found a mover in Illinois when you were in Iowa City - this sounds like you found these idiots on the internet. One of the cardinal rules for moving is NEVER look for a mover on the internet under any circumstances - your chances for being ripped off increase exponentially. You needed to get into the phone book and find someone who woulod have been local to you in Iowa City.
This concern was confirmed when you indicated the mover indicated the move would be priced in cubic feet. Only a mover interested in ripping you off would perform a move in cubic feet because the mover can more easily manipulate the final price based on how his idiots load the truck. Since they did the move in cubic feet, there was no need for the mover to produce weight tickets (and you should know the truck probably NEVER stopped at a weigh station anywhere between Iowa City and Chapel Hill - hence no weigh tickets) at your request.
Not only would I file a complaint with the FMCSA regarding your move because of the failure to give you an R&R booklet, but I would also check and see if you also signed a form waiving your right to have a visual inspection of your goods PRIOR to the move. If you never signed such a form, I would file a complaint on that as well, because they are required to inspect your goods prior to the move UNLESS you signed a waiver waiving your right to an inspection.
A consumer's best bet is to use the phone book and find a reputable mover to come to the house and inspect the goods to be moved prior to an interstate, or intrastate move. Make certain the quotes are ALWAYS done by weight only, not cubic feet, or some other combination. Once you find a mover you're considering - then look the mover on the internet to see what has been said about them. Careful of websites that proclaim a mover is REALLY great - movers have a tendency to post false claims about how good they are in an effort to dupe consumers. Finally, I'll say what I always say: Moving is not an inexpensive venture, and using the cheap mover will likely cost you more in the end in the form of broken or missing items, or jacked up prices.
Best of luck
