Hello,
I only wish that I had done online research of this company before I became a foolish victim. Last Saturday night I happened to see the infomercial for the Eco Canteen. I called the number to order because it seemed as if it was a good deal. When I recieved an automated system instead of a real person I immediately hung up. Well, I thought about it and really wanted the canteen because I had been looking for about 2 two years now for a nice stainless steel bottle at a reasonable price.

I called back and the automated system knew my phone number and address and repeated it back to me to make sure it had the right person. Initially, I felt secure about the transaction until after I gave my credit card number. The automated system began trying to sign me up for numerous amounts of weird and crazy offers to charge my card more money. I pressed the "no" option I don't know how many times trying to get to the part where my total would be given along with a confirmation number. It never happened.

I stayed in the phone hoping to be able to access a customer service rep to cancel the transaction but I was never given that option. I tried repeatedly to call the customer service number given at the end of the call and I could not get through at all. The number given was not usable. After not being able to get through on Monday I became really concerned so I notified my credit card company.

Eco Canteen had charged my card nearly $58.00 for 2 canteens that were supposed to be $9.99 with 2 free covers plus S&H of $6.99. I was hoping to cancel the fraudulent transaction and was told that since I placed the order I would have to accept the product first then return it for a refund. If, at that time, Eco Canteen did not credit my card they would make sure to get my money back for me. I then received a contact number and email address from my card company to reach Eco Canteen.

I was able to reach Eco Canteen with the intention of cancelling this order. The phone was answered "hello" by an unfriendly woman who did not identify herself as an Eco Canteen rep. I had to verify that I had the right number. I was told that I could not cancel the transaction because the order was on its way in the mail. I told the representive that the automated phone system said it would take 4-6 weeks to receive my order.

She said that it never takes that long, but yet the automated system tried to get more money from me to receive it quicker. Go figure! I told her all the problems with the automated system and she was completely unconcerned. She confirmed that I could return the item once it was received.

I recieved the package today (the following Saturday) and of course the items are no where near worth the $58.00. It does not give me a return slip or address where to return it, nor does it show me an itemization of charges. There is an address on the package which does not specify "Eco Canteen" and an address on the packing slip. Which one do I return this product to? There are no return instructions on the slip or on the website.

I will attempt to call them again on Monday as they are not available on weekends. Hopefully I will then be given return instructions. Please warn other victims of this fraudulent attempt to take our money and have this company, or lack of, shut down. Thank you.

I apologize if you misunderstood the commercial. We have never offered a free kids bottle. Our offer is as follows: the EcoCanteen is $9.99 plus $5.95 shipping/handling and comes with a bonus insulated tote plus the shipping of $4.95 (the totes retail for an upwards of $12- $15 each). All together one adult bottle with an insulated tote comes to $20.89, which is less than Klean Kanteen and other competitors weve price checked, and their prices do not include a tote or shipping. Customers are also asked if they would like to upgrade to a deluxe model that has a stainless steel lid and lifetime guarantee for an additional $7.95 each. The Kids EcoCanteen is $8.95 plus $4.95 shipping/handling and $4.95 shipping/handling for the tote. Never Spill Pull Tops (sports lids) are $4.95 and have no Shipping and Handling. And there is also an offer for rush shipment which is a flat rate of $7.84 in addition to the regular Shipping and Handling.

I bought an Eco-Canteen

My husband and I bought an Eco-Canteen a couple of months ago and we absolutely LOVE THEM. I use mine every single day and so does my husband. They are everything the infomercial said they would be and so much more. We didn't get charged a whole bunch miscellaneous fees we paid the amount of the canteens and the shipping and handling fees. We are completely satisfied with Eco-Canteen and it is NOT a rip off.

Saw that cheesy commercial last night on TV. What it says is you'll get the canteen and tote along with the kid's canteen for $9.99 plus shipping and handling. What it DOESN'T say except in the fine print in tiny letters at the bottom of the ad is they're gonna jack you for all sorts of things on top of the $9.99. COME ON. Why would you charge an extra $4.95 for shipping of the tote ON TOP of the $5.95 you're charging for shipping the canteen? BECAUSE the tote costs you MAYBE 20 or 30 cents MAX and what you're really charging people IS $4.95 for something you're paying 20 or 30 cents for. I mean your math doesn't even add up! $9.99+$5.95+$4.95 doesn't equal $20.95 but then again $20.95 sounds cheaper then $20.89. Marketing 101. d**n, just throw the tote into the same box as the canteen. It can't weigh anything OR add to your shipping cost. If it's REALLY free, just include it with the canteen. But then again you wouldn't be able to jack anyone for an additional $4.95. Lord they sell those canteens at any sporting goods store so it's not like it's any hard to find item. And after you guys get done bending over your customers like the OP for $58. I'm amazed you'd put your name on anything to do with this scam. This is just the next snuggie. I guarantee we'll see dozens of complaints about this company in the next few weeks on this site.

Their order page is unsecured. There is no SSL certificate and/or encryption on the page. It doesn't matter that they put little 'secured' and 'credit card safe' images on the bottom. That doesn't mean squat. Both IE and Firefox do not come up with any kind of SSL indication, which means it does not exist. I wouldn't put my credit card info on that page.

Try it out. Go to the website and look for any indication in your browser that it's secure. The little padlock on the bottom for Firefox isn't there. Neither is the padlock up by the url in IE. Hell, the address isn't even https: indicating it's secure.

Also, is there a way to opt out of the 'free' insulated tote? I looked at the ordering page and it appears not. Because while you tout it as 'free', it's just another cost you can ding consumers with whether they like it or not and there is no way to refuse it. What if you don't WANT the insulated tote?
