MY STORY: I enrolled w/ Empire Beauty in 2008 shortly after my daughter was born. I had been a professional Dog Groomer for 5 years and was looking to make a change to cosmetology. While I was there the teacher repeatedly belittled me in-front of other students and did not help me at all. I repeatedly asked for more help and was denied. I am male. I can wield a pair of scissors already. I know how to cut hair, as evidenced by my wife who always has a great haircut from me. I needed help w/ things that girls already know. Example: how to properly paint nails, put-in rollers, and styling. I was made to feel stupid for not knowing these things.
This is not to mention the repeated fights outside of the building which no one cared about because they were started by a non-student. I mentioned repeatedly that I thought the police should be called. I was ignored.

When my daughter was 6 months old we found out that she has a Congenital Heart Defect and needed surgery. I immediately went to my school director and asked for my options. They were vague and made it seem like I had no choice but to let my GPA drop in order to go to Phoenix to be w/ my baby. After 13 days my wife switched w/ me (thus losing money from working) to avoid me getting kicked out of school for non-attendance. When I came back they suddenly realized that I could take a leave-of-absence. They told me I would have to pay to get back into school. I left with the intention of returning to school after my daughter was well enough and I had the money.

Unfortunately, his took almost a year. I called 4 months before I intended to return to find out if anything had changed that would make it difficult for me to return. They told me on the phone that I was "good to go" and that the latest re-start date (w/o losing my federal funding) was in August. This was a lie. I called again, 2 months later to ask the same question. Once again they said "good to go."

I scheduled a "re-entry" interview. They have me fill out paperwork. After the paperwork they tell me that the placement test I took instead of a GED is no longer valid and I have LESS THAN 2 WKS to get a GED. As I said before, my daughter has a heart condition and we are NOT made of money. $90 needs to be planned for in my house. THATS WHY I CALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE. TWICE.
Then my wife who came with me notices that they have all new books. "Oh yeah, we switched to CLIK a couple months ago. You'll have to buy a new kit." Payment plan or not: I ALREADY PAID FOR A KIT. It was crappy and a month after I originally enrolled the newer students got a MUCH BETTER kit all around. That was the very first time I felt ripped off.

A week later they call me and ask me "When are you going to get your GED. We need it so you can re-enroll." So they cant answer my questions when I call them but they can call and bust my chops so they can get paid?

I'm an honest guy trying to better myself so that I can take care of my family. They have made this nearly impossible. BEWARE! Don't try to get schooling from this company. Their teachers are MORONS. Their directors are SHADY. No one knows what their doing, they're disrespectful and now I owe $15,000 whether I can find the money to get back into school or not.
