I was going to purchase a reward booklet from entertianment.com back in January 2006. My credit card was declined and i thought i had cancelled the service.
All of a sudden, out of the blue, the company charged my credit card $30 on August 28 2006. I called them that day and stated that I never ordered anything. They told me it was for a renewal.
I told them I never got the first one why would I want to renew it? I stated I had never gotten and email, or notice that I was going to get this. The man told me I could get my money back but I may have to pay a $7.95 restocking fee. I told him that I would under no circumstances pay a restocking fee and that I had worked in a bank for 8 years and that was fraud and they had 72 hours to refund me my money.
I called again today, August 31. They stated that until I send them the book I could not have my money back. I stated I have never received the book. I was told I should receive the book any day, then if I ship it right back in the pre-paid envelope, they will have it back in another 7-10 days then they refund me. I stated I would be contacting an attorney. She asked me to give her a minute while she noted the account. I told her to go for it because I had to go.
I am going to contact my bank tomorrow. I could see if I had gotten the first book and this was a renewal. But, I never got the first one. I seriously thought I had cancelled it.

I had a similar situation with this company just recently. I had been a subscriber to these books for the past few years. I decided this year to cancel the renewal of the book so when I received the postcard I called the company and canceled the renewal...or so I thought.
Lo and behold, a month went by and I recieved the current years book in the mail. I checked my credit card bill and sure enough, there was a charge for $25.00 on my account. When I called Entertainment.com to inquire the employee admitted that there was a notation made on my account for the cancellation call I had made 6 weeks prior...!!! She then proceeded to give me a song and dance about the $7.95 restocking charge. I politely informed her that this was fraud and that I was not going to pay the restocking fee as I had cancelled the account. She then informed me that she would make a notation on the account to remove the restocking fee.
Just to make sure, I then called my credit card company and filed a 'fraudulent transaction' report with them to ensure that an investigation would follow and that the charges would be removed from my account. If I see any further charges from this company I will next file mail fraud charges with the US Postal Inspection Service. It seems that this company thrives on ignoring cancellations and continues to ship books hoping that the customer will not notice the small charges on their credit card accounts.
