I contacted Erie, in response to an ad they placed in the Youngstown Vindicator. I needed repairs to my roof. A smooth talking salesman, and companion showed up at my house. After convincing me that they were an honest and upright Construction Company, and their measurement of my roof, I agreed to a price to replace my roof.
A few days later, a man indentified as their Construction Foreman showed up and made a detailed measurement of the roof. A couple of days later, The Salesman showed up, all in a lather, telling me that in getting the correct ,measurement of the roof, It was going to be necessary to buy more rubber roofing for the back section of roof. He claimed that the additional cost was going to be $6000.00. After some negotiating, he asked if I would absorb one half of the cost. Feeling sorry for him, I agreed to the additional $3000.00.
What a Boob. I should have checked the cost of the roofing before I agreed. I checked afterward, and found the cost of the entire piece of rubber roofing required, is only $635.00. I also found out that Erie Construction, is not a construction Company at all. They are merely a sales Company, utilizing sub contractors to do the work, While Erie sits on it's butt and collects an outlandish amount of money, for making a few phone calls. They ordered too much material for the job, which was paid for by me. When the sub-contractor left, they took all the extra material with them, and I received no credit for it. They said they are a member of the BBB, but I checked on line, and the BBB has no record of them.
If they ever show up at Your house, show them the exit, quickly. They are not the most honest people around. And they Certainly are not a construction Company

i agree that you were fooled into thinking what a great job erie would do but you are not alone! the ex employees of erie all were fooled too by the bs. we all want to believe that the company we work for is the best but erie has a high employee turn over for a reason! just readd some of the other complaints and you will see that you are not alone!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
consumer is right

i am wondering that if erie is such a wonderful company why would their employees be watching and responding to ripoff reports??? i agree with everything in your report and can assure you that you are right on the money! the bbb comment is not right but if you do some research you will find that the bbb is not exactly what most people think. they basically report complaints and the company can be a member of their local bbb and not show in your area, this happened to me.
i think the sales force is fed as much bull as they tell their customers. probably half of what they were told in training is not accurate and at some point they realize this and start looking for other employment!

#1 UPDATE Employee
Not sure where the rip-off is here

Let me preface this by saying I am an employee of this company, but I have no specific information in regards to this occurance.
>
True, you did agree. You obviously saw the value in doing the improvement and understood the return on investment aspect of the transaction.
>
Obviously a mistake was made. I'm guessing the part of the roof they are referring to is not steep enough for regular shingles and a rubber roof was in order. Do you think it was better to deal with the error now or wait until you had a problem?
>
Yes you probably should have but you didn't. Who's fault is that?
>
Not true. We do use sub-contractors. Name me a home improvement company that doesn't.
>
Every job has more ordered than needed. Would you rather there weren't enough? Would you have preferred they left it for you to dispose of?
>
You didn't look very hard. Try this link http://akron.bbb.org/codbrep.html?wlcl=y&id=6001651

Pretty harsh words. I'm having a difficult time understanding why you think they are a "total rip-off" as you state in your title.
