Ethical Electric sells their scam by quoting all wind and solar power for aproximately the same price as "dirty" electricity. After 3 months they charge very high, about double normal, rates. No disclosure is available on their current rates. Customers trying to do the right thing and believing false advertising, sigh on with a contract which allows Ethical to raise prices to an undisclosed amount after 3 months. Ethical advertises that their energy costs almost the same as regular sources. Mine started at 11 cents per kilowatt hour and was raised to 20 cents per kilowatt hour after 3 months. BG&E, my regular supplier charges about 10 cents.

Tom Matzzie is their founder and uses his reputation with moveon.org to  gain confidence of customers.

If customers don't catch it - and most don't, they pay into a highly profitable scam.

In my case they paid back excess charges only after I complained to the BBB. The BBB dismissed my complaint because they figure I was paid back. They are allowing thousands more to be scammed.

Ethical Electric seems misrepresented by Ripoff Report

AUTHOR: George - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, December 18, 2015

My research indicates that the Ripoff Report on Ethical Electric is way overstated. There's a good alternative assessment on the site, but I recommend further research and checking reports like this one: cleantechnica.com/2015/03/10/56000-customers-receive-clean-electricity-ethical-electric/

EE is definitely not a "scam" but a legitimate and very interesting alternative to "dirty" energy, and it deserves fair evaluation and encouragement. We need this kind of thing to work and iron out problems

Problems with fluctualting rates running high can be resolved by opting for a fixed rate, as recommended by callmepower.com/suppliers/ethical-electric/reviews.

I think you should reserve the word "scam" for actual ripoffs. It compromises this otherwise valuable site to use it inappropriately. Discouraging people from checking out EE in their area is a true disservice.

Big gas syndicate scam on wind energy

AUTHOR: Dale Snoddy - ()

POSTED: Friday, April 04, 2014

This apparent ripoff was mostly caused by gas supplier syndicates who raised January prices to unheard of, ridiculous levels. The appearance of ripoff is assisted by Ethical's own refusal to post real prices and price history on their site.

Tom Matzzee and Ethical electric got stuck with huge bills when gas suppliers raised gas prices, which raised electricity grid prices, which made Ethical have to pay outrageous prices for grid-price based wind energy. Local utilities could not raise their prices so they took losses which will be subsidized or worked into future pricing.

In a typical display of internal corruption, gas suppliers and their big money manipulators displayed how they can extort for excess profit by use of cold weather and in the process kill wind energy supply business. Federal regulators surely got paid somehow in the process - has to be a reason that they did nothing.

January was a few degrees, not much, colder than average. This winter's events reek of an engineered gouging during necessary times. It provides an ideal incident proving the need for more independent development of wind and solar energy, breaking of gas supplier syndication, and regulatory overhaul.

East coast shallow water wind development has been impaired by rich coastal landowners and fossil fuel interests who profit by a protected market. It is an area where small developers can proliferate without dangerous syndication. It is a proven, low cost, ecological, no fuel source which could provide most of the east coast electricity. It has been implemented successfully in other European countries which are now much less tied down by fossil fuel syndicates.

I will not be cashing Ethical's refund check. They can't provide clean electricity for near equal prices during assaults by powerful syndicates. I hope they let their customers know by price disclosure that these times are rare. I hope the people respond by recognizing the threat from within. Uncontrolled syndicates within our country are the biggest threat to our security and by far the biggest ripoff.
