I thought our ordeal with Evans was over but it seems I was wrong.
Some two and a half years have passed since our dealings with Evans Glass began. It started with a Canvasser who set up an appointment for a rep to meet with my wife an I. We listened to the pitch and while it was impressive, we decided the time was not quite right for us to take on another payment. Soon after we were contacted by another Evans rep who told us the original rep was new had made a few mistakes on the bid for our windows. We agreed to a second round of talks.
The next bid was much lower and we decided to go ahead. Financing was arranged and papers were signed with payments to begin a month after the install was complete.
Three or four months later we were still waiting for the install to take place. We decided to call and see what was happening. I was not overly concerned at the time as I had not paid anything up to then and was not out of pocket any money. We were told there was a hang up of some sort with the manufacture of our windows. We were repeatedly told someone would contact us later this week with an update.
After another month or two I decided Id had enough and called Evans Glass to tell them exactly what I thought of their service. I got what seems to be the party line from a manager of some sort (possibly Matt Flaith, I dont know and further more dont care).
Another few months passed with no word and I assumed this ordeal had died the death it so richly deserved.
Last summer (2007) we were having the house painted and got a call from an installer who told me the windows were ready and they would be out to install them that week. I told him that would not work because of the painting we were having done and the windows could not be done right now.
I expected a call back to schedule the install for a later date but no call was received. After our previous experiences with Evans Glass and their lack of contact I was not overly surprised at this.
What I was surprised at was the letter I go in todays mail from a collector informing me that they had been retained by Evans Glass to collect the sum of $7,160.10 I am outraged at this.
I wouldnt deal with Evans Glass right now if I had no windows in the house at all and they were selling for ten bucks a piece.
