Here is my experience with Extreme Mastering ("EM"):

We submitted a project for mastering to EM on April 10th. The replied on April 13th. Two subsequent emails to EM, on April 13th and April 15th, regarding the project's instructions, were replied to within 3 days.

The problems began to crop up shortly thereafter. No ETA was given for the project, and EM did not respond when we asked for an ETA after a week had passed. (Note that EM promises a very quick turnaround time on their site).

Finally, on May 8th EM responded to our May 5th email asking about status of the project. They said that the project was complete and had been sent. We received it on May 10th, one month after the project was submitted.

The delay I can understand (even if they do advertise a quick turnaround and excellent responsiveness on their site); things happen. But the master was not in the song order specified (they request this as part of opening the project), and a second master CD (which we paid for) was not included. More importantly, the quality of the mastering seemed poor; I agree with the other poster who says that it seems like they simply ran the CD through a computer program.

Even this I could move on from; again, mistakes happen. However the reportable offense to me is that they appear to have removed their web site, and have disconnected their numbers. There is no way for us to get the second mastering CD, get the first mastering CD done in the proper order, or get the mastering quality mistakes fixed. There is apparently no way to adjust the mastering (they advertise that they will make adjustments based on our feedback, but without a web site or working phone lines there is no way to provide feedback).

Since receiving the master CD on May 10th I have tried contacting EM numerous times through their email address and phone number, with no response.

Clearly I would not recommend EM to anyone trying to master a project. Frankly it's unclear whether they are even still in business. The bottom line for me is that we have one half-finished master, and no way to correct its problems, or get our money back.

Extreme Mastering Update

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

Extreme Mastering's email address, info@extrememastering.com, is no longer online; emails sent to this address are returned with the message "mailer daemon failure" etc.

This is in addition to Extreme Mastering having turned off both of its phone numbers, and shutting down its web site.

It's still not clear to me if is a full-fledged scam (seems somewhat unlikely given that they did provide masters to people, and others on the web hadgiven them good reviews previously), or simply an individual with extremely poor business and communication skills who couldn't keep up with his workload.
